Big Heart Bread
A Bakery with a Mission—and a Whole Lot of Love

Some stories come to me when I least expect them. I first discovered Big Heart Bread when owner Laurie Anderson generously donated two beautifully packaged loaves for our July Social Hour. I stopped by her downtown Rogers bakery to pick them up—and the moment I walked through the door, I knew I had stumbled onto something special. The warm, rustic space immediately felt like home, and Laurie’s graciousness was every bit as comforting as the scent of fresh sourdough in the air. I instantly knew this had to be our next New in Town feature.
Tucked away at 103 W. Chestnut Street, Big Heart Bread is quietly winning hearts one loaf at a time. It’s not just the intoxicating aroma of naturally fermented bread or the beautifully scored crusts that make this place special—it’s the heart behind it all. Laurie, the founder and baker, has created something far beyond a storefront; her bakery feels like a thoughtfully curated kitchen where bread is made with purpose and shared with love.
From Farmers Market to Full-Fledged Bakery
Laurie’s journey began as a farmers market baker, crafting loaves with care and quickly developing a devoted following. When the perfect storefront opened in downtown Rogers, she knew it was time to make a leap of faith. With the support of Signature Bank, the Chamber of Commerce, and neighboring small businesses like Nola’s Pantry, Laurie transformed her passion into a thriving bakery that’s now approaching its first anniversary this September.
Bread with Purpose
Big Heart Bread is more than a bakery—it’s a benevolent business. Laurie proudly donates a portion of profits to the Rogers Public Education Foundation, a local nonprofit that enhances educational experiences for students in the community.
“We believe our sourdough bread is a conduit for connecting people and generating profits for the betterment of our community,” Laurie shared. “It still makes my heart beat fast.”
Naturally Crafted, Beautifully Baked
Every loaf at Big Heart Bread is authentically crafted—fermented for over 24 hours with no added yeast. From the flagship Everyday Sourdough to delightful twists like Cinnamon Raisin Swirl, Cranberry & Pecan, Olive & Thyme, and the hearty Pumpernickel and Mighty Multigrain, there’s a flavor for every palate. “We eat with our eyes first,” Laurie says, and the elegant scoring on each loaf proves it’s true.
Each visit to the bakery is a personal experience. Customers are welcomed with genuine interest, given pairing suggestions, and offered insights into the weekly bake schedule. “Our regular customers are our bread and butter,” Laurie smiles.
Looking Ahead
Big Heart Bread is currently featured on the menu at Theo’s Rogers, and Laurie has her sights set on expanding into a second location in Uptown Rogers, while also launching online ordering and delivery options.
As for Laurie’s favorite part of the job? “Figuring it out,” she laughs. “Whether it’s the dough or the business, I thrive on the creative process.”
