The Siegel Family: A Starwood Legacy Nearly Three Decades in the Making

When Don and Lena Siegel made the move from Chicago to Texas 29 years ago, they had no idea they would become pioneers in one of Frisco’s most cherished neighborhoods. As the very first family to settle in Starwood, they have watched the community transform from open land — where cattle still roamed freely into the vibrant, thriving neighborhood it is today.
One of Siegel’s most memorable early experiences speaks to just how much has changed over the years. At the intersection of Eagle Pass and Starwood Drive, Lena once witnessed a mother cow giving birth to a calf — a surreal moment that remains etched in the family’s memory. That scene, now unimaginable in modern-day Frisco, highlights the stark contrast between the area’s humble beginnings and its current suburban sophistication.
Don originally moved to Texas after being recruited to serve as division president for Huntington Homes, one of the early developers of Starwood. At the time, he was president of Ryland Homes in Chicago. A graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in construction management, Don also played hockey during his college years. Today, he continues to share his passion for homes as a sales consultant with Lennar Homes. When he’s not working, Don is an avid sports fan. He holds season tickets for the Dallas Stars, closely follows the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoys staying active at Cowboys Fit.
Lena, originally from Virginia, is now retired and happily dedicates her time to her greatest joys—babysitting her new granddaughter Katy and caring for the family’s two beloved dogs, Huey and Maddie. She also enjoys Pilates and working out at Cowboys Fit.
The Siegel’s’ son, Alec, has grown up with Starwood. He attended Montessori school, now Legacy Christian Academy, and was active in sports like soccer, basketball, tennis, and especially golf—his longtime favorite. After graduating from Frisco High School, Alec attended Baylor University, majoring in Health Science Studies. It was there he met his future wife, Sara, a business major from Arizona. The couple married in June 2019 and now both work as nurses for Medical City Plano. They share a home with their two dogs: Huey, a loyal Black Mouth Cur, and Maddie, a high-energy dachshund who believes she runs the household.
In January 2025, Alec and Sara welcomed their daughter Katy into the world. Just a few months old, she has already brought immeasurable joy and unforgettable memories to the family. Lena and Don cherish every moment with their first grandchild, who has quickly become the heart of the Siegel home.
Family holidays are thoughtfully shared between Frisco and Fort Worth, where Sara’s parents, Joe and Josephine, reside near Eagle Mountain Lake. With Italian heritage on Sara’s side, holiday gatherings blend Italian and American traditions, making each celebration unique and meaningful.
Over the years, the Siegel’s have seen the culinary landscape of Frisco blossom. When they first arrived, options were limited, and BYOB was the norm. They vividly remember the excitement when the Shops of Starwood opened, spending many weekends dining at Bonnie Ruth’s (now J. Theodore). Today, with so many restaurants to choose from, their favorite go-to spots include Dee Lincoln Prime, TruFire Kitchen & Bar, and Kotta Sushi Lounge.
One of the family’s most cherished neighborhood traditions is the annual Fourth of July parade. Alec and his friends would decorate their bikes, ride motorized cars, or be pulled in wagons, all while the neighborhood pets joined in sporting their best patriotic attire. One year, Alec and the family’s late dog, Peewee, even took home first prize.
After nearly three decades in Starwood, the Siegel’s remain deeply connected to their community. They treasure the tree-lined streets, scenic walking paths, strong sense of safety, and above all, friendly neighbors. With unmatched access to local amenities, shops, and entertainment, Don and Lena couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Their story is not just about a family but about helping shape a neighborhood — and calling it home for nearly 30 years.
