Meet the Eklund Family

From South Dakota to Naturewalk: A Leap of Faith Toward Coastal Living

Chiropractor Lee and interior designer Sarah Eklund have been married for 21 years and are parents to three children—Eli (15), Gannon (13), and Emmy (8). Originally from South Dakota, the Eklunds moved to Naturewalk just a couple of weeks before the big snowstorm in 2025. Neighbors jokingly blamed them for bringing the cold weather, but for the Eklunds, it was no laughing matter.  Escaping the long, harsh winters was one of the main reasons they moved. Tired of seven months of snow, cold, and wind, and ready for a new chapter, they took a leap of faith to chase their dream of living near the ocean.

Lee attended Black Hills State University and later earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic and a Bachelor’s in Human Biology from Northwestern Health and Sciences University. Sarah also graduated from Black Hills State with a Bachelor’s degree in K-8 Elementary Education. The couple met in college when Sarah, a ski patroller, helped Lee after a failed ski jump. The two had a class together, and from there, the story began.

Lee has been a chiropractor for 18 years and owned a private practice for 17 years before launching 30A Chiropractic & Wellness locally. Sarah owns Sarah Eklund Interiors, an interior design business she started 7 years ago, and 30A Creative Coverings, her custom window treatment company, which she’s run for 4 years.
Though the Eklunds don’t currently have pets, their kids created "The Critter Crew", offering services like pet sitting, plant watering, garbage can duty, mail retrieval, and even babysitting. The entire family shares a love for people, adventure, and entrepreneurship. They enjoy skiing (both snow and water), surfing, and spending quality time with friends and family. This summer, a visit to Cypress Gardens was a highlight. The boys recently launched a teen entrepreneurship club, which has been a great source of learning and friendship.

For date nights, Lee and Sarah enjoy O-Ku and Scout Sports Tavern. They also love bike rides and beach walks. The whole family bikes frequently, especially to Alys Beach to visit Fonville Press and exploring nearby trails. Paddle boarding at Grayton Beach is another family favorite.

Lee has found community at Momentum Fitness, while our daughter has loved the Saturday waterslides, we have a blast playing bingo, trivia nights, parades, youth group kickball at Chapel of the Beach, and our sons enjoy leading their teen business club every week.

The Eklunds say their favorite part of living in the Origins neighborhood is the sense of community. “It’s better than anything we could’ve dreamed,” says Sarah. “Someone once described it as living in a Hallmark movie and it truly feels that way.” They love running into familiar faces, having endless things to do, and being just a bike ride away from the beach.
