Colby’s Lubbock roots run deep—right down to the business’s name and focus on family and relationships: “I come from a big family, having 3 other siblings who craved competition. My fiancee  and younger brother actually work with me, which definitely keeps me motivated. From childhood my passion has been people and football; Wreck ‘em Tech! I was blessed to advance my education and football career after high school while continuing to work for the family business. After college, I came back home to Lubbock to take over the family business.”

 

Family is one part of Double T’s foundation; faith is another as Colby explains: “My environment influenced me but my faith in Christ built me. I am grateful for everyday that I can walk the path the Lord has set for me and reap the benefits of following Jesus.” This is a powerful statement, one that informs every aspect of Colby’s life including the work that Double T does in the community he loves.

 

As any homeowner in Oakmont Estates—or anywhere in Lubbock—can tell you, lawn care is an ongoing issue and keeping grass healthy and happy in our climate is a long-term project particularly in the summer heat.  As we often do, we asked what advice Colby had for residents of our neighborhood and his answer was absolutely in keeping with his values and those of Double T Sod: “The best piece of advice I can give to customers is to shop around.  This is typically not what your taught to say in marketing 101. However, too often people get excited about revamping their outdoor area that they accept the first bid they see. It's important to meet with as many business as possible to find out who the right fit is for you and your vision. Making sure the company you choose has the knowledge and experience to maximize your hard earned dollars.” Wise words for any significant investment, but especially so for something that shapes both the value of our homes and how we enjoy our outdoor spaces.
