Leading with Purpose: Meet HOA Board Chair Michelle Melcher
For Michelle Melcher, Oakmont wasn’t just another neighborhood—it was always the neighborhood. After admiring its charm and thoughtful design for years, she and her family made it home six years ago. Today, she’s helping shape its future as a dedicated member—and now Chair—of the HOA Board.
Michelle’s path to Oakmont began right here in Lubbock, where she grew up before attending Texas Tech University. After graduation, she and her husband headed to the Dallas area to begin careers in banking. A few years later, they felt the pull back to West Texas, returning to Lubbock to grow their family and continue their professional journeys. Eventually, Michelle transitioned from banking into a new venture as a residential real estate appraiser and investor—work she has now been doing successfully for more than 20 years.
Her decision to serve on the Oakmont HOA Board started with simple curiosity. Having previously been involved in organizations like Junior League, PTA, and Booster Club committees, Michelle was no stranger to volunteering—but HOA leadership was new territory. When she learned of an opening, she reached out, eager to learn and contribute. She initially joined as Vice Chair, but when the Board Chair stepped down, Michelle stepped up.
In her leadership role, Michelle is focused on preserving what makes Oakmont special. “My goal is to make sure we are following the original bylaws established,” she shares, “so that Oakmont continues to be a well-maintained and appealing neighborhood.” Her steady, thoughtful approach reflects both her professional background and her long-standing commitment to community involvement.
What she loves most about Oakmont is the pride residents take in their homes. That shared sense of care and investment is visible throughout the neighborhood—from beautifully maintained properties to thoughtfully executed projects. Michelle points to the 114th Street landscape plan as a standout achievement, praising the previous board for their vision and planning. She’s also excited about the recently approved interior lighting project, which she believes will further enhance the neighborhood’s beauty and cohesion.
With a deep appreciation for Oakmont’s past and a clear vision for its future, Michelle Melcher is helping ensure the neighborhood remains a place residents are proud to call home.
