Four Decades of Compassionate Care at Animal Medical Center

“We LOVE all the vets and staff at Animal Medical Center. They provide not only the best care for all my pets, explain all tests and procedures well, and their boarding facility is the BEST. The office staff is amazing!! We have used this veterinary office for more than 40 years!”

We’re quoting this recommendation verbatim because we’re always especially intrigued when we get such a glowing review for one of our amazing sponsors. Doubly so when it’s something as important as a veterinary practice that cares for our beloved pets! Animal Medical Center has been providing small animal/pet care for decades, and has cemented their place as a mainstay of the community. We’re proud to feature them as a sponsor and introduce them to you in this month’s issue!

We spoke with Dr. Tim Polk and Dr. Justin Propp, two of the vets who make Animal Medical Center such a special place, and they told us about the practice’s history in our fair city: “The business was started over 40 years ago, and of course the goal was to provide small animal care to Lubbock and the surrounding area . . . The practice grew from a 2 doctor practice to a 7 doctor practice.  With this growth, it allows us the opportunity to provide care for more patients and offer a wider array of services including boarding.”

They went on to explain what sets Animal Medical Center apart: the connections they form with each of their clients and patients: “What stands out is a the family feel you experience.  Even though we have grown, we still take the time to make everyone feel welcome.  Our clients are family and we value the relationships we make.  With every visit, we take the time and listen to their needs and concerns.  The patients are priority, of course, but without a good relationship with the owners, we can't do our best.” It’s also noteworthy that they’re one of the most accessible veterinary practices in the area: “We always accept new patients and are one of the few practices in town that takes walk-in's. We know emergencies happen and we are there to help!”

As we sometimes do, we asked what advice the folks at Animal Medical Center have for the pet owners of Oakmont Estates, and both veterinarians emphasized the need for vigilance and consistency in pet medical care: “As a whole, the residents of Lubbock are very caring and responsible pet parents.   It is very important to maintain yearly preventative care.  Yearly health checks and vaccinations keep our patients healthy longer.  In addition, with frequent visits, we can sometimes identify problems early before they get out of hand.  Also, it is very important to realize animals will hide illness as long as they can.  It is a survival instinct.  Therefor, once we see a problem, the patient may be very sick.  So any change is worth noted.  Even a phone call to discuss the problem is worth it to make sure your pet doesn't need to be seen.”

It’s a bit of a cliché, but it’s true: pets are part of the family and they deserve all the love and care we can give them. The staff at Animal Medical Center feels the same way; they want the best for you and your pets, every time. With a convenient location in the heart of Lubbock and equally convenient hours, Animal Medical Center is there when you need them for all your small animal care needs. If your pet is due for a checkup or you have question about your animal friends’ health, give them a call today at (806) 794-4118 to schedule an appointment.
