Feed Seniors Now: Join the Mission to End Senior Hunger in Lubbock

Lubbock Meals on Wheels has been serving the community since 1971

LMOW delivers nutritious meals to people who are homebound, elderly, or disabled and have no other assistance at lunchtime. Our volunteers currently deliver meals to over 1,000 people each day in Lubbock and Wolfforth.
We also provide weekend meals to 675 of our clients weekly (a 23% increase over last year). These seniors often have no other means to obtain food on the weekend other than what is provided through LMOW.

For the 15th year, Comfort Keepers of Lubbock is partnering with Lubbock Meals on Wheels to feed seniors on the LMOW Weekend Meal Program.
Throughout September, Comfort Keepers of Lubbock encourages businesses, organizations, and churches to hold food and fund drives to support the Lubbock MOW Weekend Meal Program.  On October 4th, Comfort Keepers of Lubbock will coordinate a food drive at five area Walmart locations.

Good nutrition contributes to a superior quality of life for seniors. Comfort Keepers, helps seniors live healthy, independent lives and promotes senior nutrition through their Feed Seniors Now initiative. According to Texas Health & Human Services (hhs.texas.gov), one in nine seniors in Texas are at risk of hunger.

Nourishing seniors is an important part of maintaining senior independence. Comfort Keepers champions senior nutrition in the community through the Feed Seniors Now food drive.

Food items to be collected include the following: Individually packaged cheese crackers, peanuts, peanut butter crackers, Chef Boyardee meals, small cans of tuna, chicken, Vienna sausages, Beanie Weenies, and 10.75 oz cans of soup. Expired items cannot be used.

At Lubbock Meals on Wheels, it takes MANY volunteers to make our mission successful.   We have several volunteer opportunities.
  • Deliver meals to our clients. You don’t have to commit to a weekly schedule.
  • Help our food service staff prepare and package breakfast and lunch items.
  • Assist in our office by answering phones, calling clients, helping prepare and send mail, and other projects as needed.
  • Help carry out coolers and other items to be delivered and clean coolers.
  • Transport pets to and from veterinary appointments.
