Meet Taco, the six-year-old tortoiseshell cat. Tortoiseshell cats are part of the calico coloration, most all being female, and Taco is no exception to the girl party. The Canion family came to adopt Taco about six years ago, when Taco was a mere six weeks old. “We saw her in the pet store and loved her personality,” Stacy Canion shares. “My husband brought her home hidden in his jacket and surprised us.” Taco’s name is derived from the Canion’s sons; they thought her coat looked like taco meat, and the name stuck.

For a cat, Taco has guard dog-like protective instincts; she uses her kitty growl to alert the Canions when she sees someone at the front door. Additionally, Taco is a sound timekeeper. “She knows the time and usually starts screaming at the bedroom door for wet food before the alarm goes off,” Stacy shares. Taco can also get into closed drawers and open the pocket doors. After all, they’re called cat burglars for a reason. “She is also a huge talker and screams for attention or for her food bowl to be filled,” says Stacy. “She doesn't like it when you can see the bottom of the bowl.” She screams when the door is shut or when the Canion boys go outside, or really whenever she wants someone to come to the room she is in. Needless to say, she’s big on communication and ready for attention.

Taco is a cat with particular tastes. Her favorite playthings are rubber bands, boxes, shoes and hats, and appreciates the culinary delights of salmon wet food and salmon hard treats. She’s also particular with her people; “She's a cat, so naturally, she hates everyone but us,” admits Stacy. With the ones she loves, she loves big. Every morning, she lays on Stacy’s lap while Stacy drinks her coffee before running upstairs with her to wake the boys up for school. As a true indoor cat, Taco prefers the comfort of her home and the company of her family. Her ideal adventure is simple: snuggling on a lap, wrapped in a warm blanket. True to her name, Taco loves being warm, can sometimes get a little spicy, and will always be a family favorite.
