Island Dreams and Super Teams: Meet William Birkman
An Oak Creek second-grader chasing big adventures, cool superpowers, and a future in engineering.

William Birkman is an eight-year-old second-grader full of insight and energy. Residing in Oak Creek for nearly two years, William’s favorite neighborhood pastimes include going to the Tyler Athletic Swim Club and riding his bike through the friendly Oak Creek streets. When he’s not crushing his second grade classes, he enjoys arts and crafts, playing video games, and playing outside. Furthermore, he likes playing piano and being part of a competitive swim league, both of which help him challenge himself and have fun at the same time.
If William could have any superpower, he said he’d like to have the powers of Lucius Best, known also as Frozen in Pixar’s The Incredibles. William would fight danger with his ice powers, gliding across the ice like a true hero. Of course, superheroes work with others, and William has his own special collection of friends to help him fight the bad guys. His best super pals are Layton, Turner, Renyn and Elijah; they all love to laugh, play, and hang out. William also considers his mom and dad to be his best friends, as they always support him and have so much fun doing things together as a family. That is one super team!
William says that if he could go anywhere in the world, he’d travel to the islands of Hawaii and have the most extravagant adventure possible. Speaking of Hawaii, William likes the idea of living on island time because of his recent trip to Florida. It’s actually a family tradition for the Birkmans to go to Florida for his birthday week, where they always have loads of fun spending time at the beach and making great memories as a family. On his most recent trip, he got to ride the Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise and had the unforgettable experience of catching a black-tip shark with his dad. A side note: William thinks black-tip sharks are cool, but his favorite creature in the world is the extraordinary-looking axolotl.
Back on the dry land of his school, William particularly enjoys math class; not only does he find math fun, but he appreciates how easily the concepts click with him. Because of his mathematical affinity, it should come as no surprise that William dreams of being a robotics engineer. He wants to build his own animatronics, creating different projects and bringing all of his creative ideas to life. Whether he’s riding his bike all around the neighborhood or running across the sands of Florida’s beautiful beaches, William brings energy, warmth, and kindness to every day.
