Southeast Ventura County YMCA

Chili Cook Off YMCA Booth
May 5th, the Southeast Ventura County YMCA had a blast hosting the Kids’ Zone at the 48th Annual Thousand Oaks Chili Cook Off! From exciting crafts and games to an obstacle course, bounce houses and inflatables, there was fun around every corner. Families also had the opportunity to learn more about our exciting new summer camps. A big hit with the kids was spinning our famous YMCA prize wheel—everyone loved the chance to win something special! We were thrilled to provide a safe, fun-filled space for children and families to enjoy the day together.

Southeast Ventura County YMCA Prom Closets
Each spring, the Southeast Ventura County YMCA partners with Soroptimist of Simi Valley to host the Prom Closet—a free boutique-style event that ensures every teen has the chance to attend prom with confidence. Launched in 2023, the event offers high-quality formalwear at no-cost, thanks to generous community donations and volunteer support.
In 2025, events were held at both the Simi Valley Family YMCA and the Yarrow Family YMCA, welcoming hundreds of students and families. Teens browsed through dresses, suits, shoes and accessories, receiving personalized styling assistance. Many were surprised to learn everything was completely free. One student found a brand-new gown, valued at $415, that fit perfectly, while another left in a suit that seemed tailor-made.
The Prom Closet’s impact extends beyond prom night. Students left with outfits for graduations, award ceremonies and other important milestones. Families often returned to donate items, inspired to give back. The Prom Closet helps teens feel supported during a key moment in their lives.
