Rock, Recruiting, and Real Connection
The Many Passions of Jonathon Streander
Familiar to many, Jonathon Streander is simultaneously full of motion and grounded. He is all-in on the things that matter to him, and as a result, has built a life shaped by family, creativity, a passion to empower people, and a genuine appreciation for the NoCo community.
Jonathon grew up in Indiana, where he also raised his children, Taylor and Jackson, through years filled with practices, tournaments, and schedules only families with competitive athletes truly understand. Playing since age eight, their accomplishments reflect years of dedication and a commitment to working hard. Taylor won the Indiana State Championship in softball and earned Academic All-State honors in basketball, and Jackson’s ranking as the #3 shooting guard in his class led to an invitation to Chris Paul’s CP3 Rising Stars National Camp in North Carolina.
After both kids left for college, the quiet that followed made Jonathon realize he was ready for something new. Norton Commons had always caught his attention with its walkability and energy, but it was the community-centric atmosphere that would provide the perfect backdrop for a people-lover to work from home without feelings of seclusion, so in February 2022, he made the move to his Featherbell home.
In the years since moving to NoCo, Jonathon has fully woven his personal and professional lives into the fabric of the neighborhood. Included in this are Cletus and Boris, Jonathon’s energetic dogs who have become neighborhood characters in their own right. Five-year-old Cletus is a Goldendoodle rescue, and Boris, a Bernedoodle, is his 8-month-old chaotic counterpart. Jonathon affectionately admits that Cletus completes him, but Boris destroys him…though he deeply loves both. Daily trips to the dog park have become a ritual; a chance to burn off canine energy and connect with neighbors.
Jonathon has come to know neighborhood restaurant owners and staff, enjoys mingling with neighbors at community events, and supports charities in and out of NoCo. “I enjoy attending the farmers market and Food Truck Fridays [and] the golf cart privileges are also pretty sweet.” Among the charities he supports are USA Cares via the Stroll golf cart wash, and Toys for Tots and SPARC Hope by attending their annual events. Further enriching the NoCo experience, Jonathon can be found at Quills several days a week, laptop open and coffee nearby, enjoying the perks of the neighborhood and supporting local business while also growing his own.
Professionally, Jonathon is centered on communication and connection. After earning his Advertising and Communications degree from Indiana University and a master’s in public relations from Ball State, he built a career focused on helping people find the right opportunities. Recently, he hung out his own shingle, finally putting his extensive experience in human resources and global talent acquisition to work for himself. His recruiting firm, Visionary Talent Acquisition, focuses on enhancing candidate experience and employer branding. The firm is rooted in understanding people and cultures to match talent with environments where they can flourish. Since opening the firm in April, he’s become increasingly involved in local networking and keeping himself open to new opportunities. Launching a business isn’t easy, but Jonathon embraced the challenge with the same energy he once poured into raising athletes. The firm is growing because of trust—the kind earned through consistency, clarity, and a reputation for delivering exactly what he promises.
Though the work is important, it’s family that grounds him. Jonathon has enjoyed watching Taylor and Jackson grow into thriving young adults and is proud of the people they have become. The dedication and commitment required as athletes formed the foundation for success in academics and in their chosen professions. Taylor (27) earned her master’s degree from Indiana University and is now working as a Speech Language Pathologist. Recently married, she and her husband, Dawson, live in southern Indiana. Jackson (22) also went to IU…like father, like daughter, like son…and has already stepped into a leadership role as a VP of Operations in the construction industry.
Hard work earns downtime for recharging and relaxing. For the Streanders, R&R comes in many forms. They are enthusiastic participants in Louisville’s independent restaurant scene and love discovering newly opened hot spots like Cipollini in the Highlands. With Fall in the air, weekends are reserved for tailgating a handful of IU football games, a family favorite.
Music also plays a central role in Jonathon’s life and resonates deep into his core. It is a passion he shares with his children, particularly Taylor. As devoted live music fans, it is not uncommon for them to follow their favorite bands from city to city for a few weeks a year, sometimes internationally. Case in point, Taylor and Dawson travelled to Italy and Paris last May to see Goose. Though experiencing live music is unparalleled, making it is even more fulfilling for Jonathon and a passion he is rekindling.
In his twenties and early thirties, Jonathon played guitar and sang in a nationally touring rock band. After stepping away from music for sixteen years, he returns with the perspective of someone who has lived several chapters since. His new project is called Gato Sol. The band is currently recording an album with Grammy-winning producer Toby Wright, known for his work with Alice in Chains, Metallica, and 3 Doors Down, and the one who produced for Jonathon’s former band, Burn to Shine, in Los Angeles in 2009.
Through all of it—the business, the music, the family, the dogs—Jonathon has built a life defined by momentum. Kids are adulting, Visionary Talent Acquisition is growing, Gato Sol is recording, and the next chapter feels wide open. It’s a story of reinvention and building something meaningful from experience, instinct, and a willingness to evolve, all from a location where we support one another…a reminder that the best communities are built not just by proximity, but by presence.
