The Magical World of Disney

With everything going on in the world, the December article should deal with something fun and lighthearted. Let's talk DISNEY! For those rolling their eyes, hear me out. I understand the argument, “It's a Money Trap.”, “It’s only for kids.”, or “There are too many people.” The answer to those few comments is, “Yes it is, and more.” Being a Disney fan is more than the money, it is the memories.

Our Disney odyssey started with our honeymoon. Many thought we were crazy, but we went and had an amazing time. The next time we would go would be with our daughters. Their first trip to the Magic Kingdom would be for the millennium, that's right we were at Disney for New Year's Eve 1999. We decided if the millennium bug was going to bite we should be in the “Happiest Place on Earth.” For the last 20-plus years we have spent Fall Breaks, Spring Breaks, Summer Breaks, Derby Weekends, and Christmas Breaks at Disney, each trip has given us multiple opportunities to try so many different festivals, seasonal events, and limited engagements. The next milestones will be with our grandchildren.

Christmas at Disney is one of our favorite times to visit. Not only do we get to experience all the Winter Holiday events and food, but I get to have fireworks on my Anniversary (we were married on January 1, 1994). The time of the year can be crazy with the crowds during the holidays, but it can still be so much fun. Last year was the first time we got to participate in the Candlelight Processional that has been going on for over 50 years, it was also with Mariska Hargitay as the narrator. Talking to people in lines we realize we are not alone in our love of Disney at Christmas.

So what advice can I give about going to Disney, especially during the Christmas holidays? DON’T TRY TO DO EVERYTHING!!  We have been going for over 20 years and still find new things on every trip. We always try to find a new restaurant or a new food item each trip (thanks to the Disney food blog on YouTube). When you do decide to go to Disney remember that no one can take your fun without your permission. Enjoy the snow on Main Street, the Cookie Stroll at EPCOT, the Prep and Landing projections at Hollywood Studios, or the Christmas puns on the Jungle Cruise. Always remember, many will say Disney is for kids; but Walt Disney would say, “That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.”  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope you have a magical year to come.
