Costello's Butcher and Deli

Making a Difference in Our Community!

Costello's is known for giving back to the community with a lunch program and many other programs for kids.

This month we talked with Christie Costello of Costello's Butcher and Deli. Not only does this business offer fabulous food and delicious cuts of meat, but they go above and beyond to invest in the children on Pensacola's West Side.

Tell us a little about where you started, and how long you've lived here.

I am from Minnesota, and we have lived in Pensacola for about 20 years. I am married with one son and one granddaughter who is turning 2 this month.

What are some of the things that happened to lead you to where you are now?

We sold our bar/café Blues Café in 2010 that had been located in downtown Pensacola and tried to retire-- but we quickly learned we were not ready for retirement!  We saw there was a need on the Westside of Pensacola for community outreach, so we decided to invest in a business that would give back to the community.

Tell us about the business you opened there.

We own Costello’s Butcher and Deli. We started this shop due to the need on the Westside for community relationships over here. We wanted to be a spot where people could come for friendship, a place they could count on.

What is unique about your business ?

We invest 100% of what we make back into this community!

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer our readers in Nature Trail?

We operate our business like your family! If you do not feel like you’re at my house, something is wrong!!! We treat every person as if you're family!

What else we should know about you, your family, or your business?

We feed all the children in the community for free every day! We saw a need during Covid, and we filled that need!!! Every child is given a free bag lunch every time they visit Costello’s. We want all children to feel special and loved! Through this free lunch program, we have been able to start the Kimberly Tauer Foundation , a 501c3 that fills the needs of many of the children of our local community. We sponsor youth programs and invest in ensuring they have everything they need to create a positive future!
