Franklin Regional Junior Raising Her Voice—and Thousands—for a Cause Close to Home

At just 16 years old, Harper Lacey is already making a lasting impact on her school, her community, and the lives of those affected by blood cancer. A junior at Franklin Regional Senior High School, Harper will turn 17 in May and is quickly building a reputation as a dedicated student, athlete, performer, and advocate.
Harper lives in Murrysville with her family—her mom, Jenna, dad, Scott, and her two sisters, Addy and Brynn. Family has always played a foundational role in Harper’s life, especially when it comes to the value of teamwork. “My family has always made it a point to be on a team,” she says. “That looks different for everyone, but since eighth grade, it’s been lacrosse for me.”
In addition to being a lacrosse player, Harper is an avid fitness enthusiast and a passionate performer. Her love of music and acting began in fifth grade when she landed the lead in her school’s musical. Since then, the stage has been her second home. “I’ve always loved singing and performing,” she shares. “Ever since that first role, I’ve loved being on stage.”
But Harper’s talents and time extend well beyond the spotlight. She also works at Redstone Highlands, a local assisted living facility, a job she secured through her sister Addison. “I love working with all of the residents,” she says warmly. “It’s such a rewarding experience.”
Perhaps most impressively, Harper recently led a major philanthropic initiative as part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionaries of the Year campaign. Alongside two co-candidates, she led a team of nearly 20 students across the Greater Pittsburgh region to raise funds for blood cancer research. In just seven weeks, their team raised over $80,000—a record-breaking effort driven by passion and purpose.
That passion is deeply personal. “I am passionate about this cause in hopes of helping blood cancer patients like my boyfriend, Luca,” Harper explains. Diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma, Luca has been a source of inspiration and strength in her life. “During his fight, I witnessed strength I had never before seen. It motivated, and continues to motivate me, to be the best version of myself.”
Balancing school, sports, work, and leadership activities isn’t easy—but Harper credits her success to one important principle: love what you do. “I’ve always been raised to fulfill commitments,” she says. “Because of that, I’m very selective about what I put my time into, as I give it my all. It’s easy to get through my days knowing I truly love what I do.”
Looking ahead, Harper plans to attend college and hopes to enter the medical field, where she can continue her commitment to caring for others. While her exact path is still taking shape, one thing is certain—Harper Lacey is already a leader, achiever, and difference-maker, with a bright future ahead.
