Tal Simon knows her vintage Chanel bags. One look at Sybariterian’s curated collection, and it’s clear. What began as a reprieve from the hectic schedule of her 9 to 5 job, became a dedicated effort to help Sybarites, or “luxury enthusiasts” discover timeless pieces in an authenticated way.

Raised in south Florida, Tal spent time in Washington DC and New York City before moving to Columbus, where she currently resides with her husband and their three kids. 

Tal attended The George Washington University, where she majored in dance and political science. Following graduation, she pursued a career as a professional dancer for a few years and decided to continue her education, attending law school at The Ohio State University. This led her to a career as a transactional ERISA attorney, where she helps companies navigate employee benefits during mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate deals.

Given the nature of her work in mergers and acquisitions, Tal needed a way to destress and motivate herself through the long hours and sleepless nights. Her first retail therapy purchase came in the form of a pair of designer shoes. As Tal’s deal activity increased, and shoe space became limited, she pivoted to handbags. 

Throughout the process of a deal, Tal would encourage breaks for herself by watching bag resellers on Instagram. Chanel’s timelessness and investment value made it the obvious designer for Tal to begin collecting. Her personal curation started with a few preloved bags, and she eventually acquired new bags from the Chanel boutiques in Chicago. It was through this initial process that Tal realized central Ohio had limited access to both new and preloved Chanel, and that consignment fees were prohibitive through traditional reselling channels.

Thus, the idea of Sybariterian was born as a way to both address the challenges and fuel Tal’s passions. Unlike other consignment stores in central Ohio that carry a limited selection, Sybariterian’s careful curation is plentiful and prioritizes diverse styles. Tal’s business solely sells preloved Chanel bags so that she can offer a greater variety at a competitive price point. Another aspect that distinguishes Syberitarian from other online luxury handbag resellers is its emphasis on offering customers the opportunity to touch the bags in person before committing to the purchase. Tal is highly discerning about the quality of each bag she sells.
