Harvest of Hope Signature Event

Susan and Pete Hagan

On October 25th, the Hilton Columbus Downtown shimmered with anticipation as guests arrived for Harvest of Hope, a signature black tie gala which helps advance the understanding, prevention, and treatment of cancer at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James).  This year’s remarkable occasion raised over $200,000 for the OSUCCC – James.

This extraordinary achievement would not have been possible without the vision and tireless commitment of the event chairs: Sarah Benson Hatcher, Jessie Roby Hoffman, and Rachel Beck Montfort. Their leadership was the heartbeat of Harvest of Hope, guiding every detail with passion and purpose, from organizing the evening’s delicious dinner and inspiring program to rallying community support. These remarkable individuals transformed hope into a tangible impact.

Harvest of Hope guests walked along a glamorous red-carpet entrance, where they mingled, enjoyed cocktails at the bar, and had their photos captured against a formal backdrop by a professional photographer.

Following an elegant sit-down dinner, guests were welcomed by John J. Warner, MD, CEO of The Ohio State University Medical Center and Executive Vice President at Ohio State, who kicked off the evening program. The program continued with an inspiring conversation between Dr. David Cohn, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer at the OSUCCC – James, and Alexandra (Allie) DeFries, a courageous two-time non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor. Allie shared her story of undergoing a successful stem cell transplant at the OSUCCC – James two and a half years ago. Now cancer-free, her powerful story was a testament to the extraordinary healing that arises when compassionate care meets cutting-edge science.

The evening continued in a spirit of celebration as guests embraced the event’s Vegas-night theme, trying their luck at casino games and dancing to the vibrant music of the band, Universal Crush.

Since the inaugural event, Harvest of Hope has raised approximately $1.2 million for cancer research.

Thanks to Sarah, Jessie, and Rachel, the event not only strengthened bonds within the community but also raised a significant amount of money to further cancer research.  Their efforts will support pioneering cancer research and compassionate care, lighting the way toward a brighter, healthier future.
