Meet Mellie & Mabel
The Fischer Family’s Delightful Dachshund Duo

We’ve lived in the Overlook at Marietta Country Club for about 15 years now, and one of the things we love most about this neighborhood is the sense of community. There are so many ways to connect with others—if and when you want to. It’s also been a wonderful place to raise our daughter, who’s now out on her own and starting a new chapter of her life. That said, our house is far from quiet—because now it’s filled with the pitter-patter of four tiny dachshund paws... times two!
Let us introduce you to Mellie and Mabel, our five-month-old wire-haired dachshund puppies. They’re both girls and full of personality. We found them through Willow Springs Dachshunds, a wonderful breeder south of Atlanta. Our daughter had wanted a wire-haired dachshund for quite some time, and when Willow Springs had a litter, she was first in line. After she brought home Mabel, she somehow talked us into adopting her sister, Mellie—and we’re so glad she did.
We didn’t name them right away. We wanted to see a little of their personalities before deciding what fit. We were looking for something that sounded sweet together but also suited each pup. After a few days, Mellie and Mabel just felt right.
Mabel is the queen of belly rubs. The second she meets someone, she rolls over and shamelessly demands a tummy scratch. Mellie has the most beautiful eyes—we swear she can melt hearts with just one look. They're both affectionate, silly, and yes—we’re biased—but we’re convinced they’re the cutest puppies in the world.
We’ve started basic training and they’ve both mastered “sit.” We’re working on other tricks now, and they’re very food motivated! Their favorite treats are the corkscrew bully sticks and the Momentum Training Bites from Bark Street Petopia. (Which, by the way, is our go-to pet store—they’re fantastic.)
At home, Mellie and Mabel adore their Havanese sisters, Soxx and Copper. The four of them have become fast friends. While Mellie and Mabel haven’t had the chance to meet many neighborhood pups yet, we’d love to connect with other dachshund owners nearby.
The girls bring such joy into our lives—whether they’re chasing toys, curled up on the couch, or simply following us around the house. They’ve added so much energy and love to our home.
And while Mabel is settling into life here with us, Mellie has a big adventure ahead—she’ll be moving to Hawaii to live with our daughter once she’s old enough and cleared to travel. Something tells us she’s going to love the beach life!
It’s amazing how two tiny dogs can fill a house with so much laughter and love. Mellie and Mabel may be little, but they’ve already made a huge impact on our hearts.
