Hermione: The Pup Who Runs the Yard

Hermione is our two-year-old German Shepherd–Lab mix, adopted from East Coast Adoptions, and she’s been keeping us on our toes ever since. She was the runt of her litter, and we took the kids with us to pick her up as a surprise. They were beyond excited to meet her and instantly fell in love. Her name came naturally; our whole family loves Harry Potter, and “Hermione” just seemed to fit this smart, strong-willed little pup with a mind of her own.

From the start, Hermione made herself at home and made it clear who was in charge. She’s equal parts playful and mischievous, always curious about what’s cooking on the counter or who’s walking by the fence. Now that she’s grown, she’s become the queen of the yard, spending her days running laps, chasing toys, and keeping a watchful eye on everything happening around her. Even when we bring her inside, she heads straight back to the door, eager to get out and play some more.

Hermione’s personality keeps us laughing every day. She’s a counter-surfer, comes when she feels like it, and is completely terrified of our cats, her so-called “feline brothers.” Her best friend is Charlie, our friends’ Goldendoodle, who keeps her in line. She adores him and shows it by licking his face until he can’t take it anymore.

Despite her mischievous streak, Hermione has the biggest heart. She loves being with the family—especially playing in the yard, snuggling with the kids, or begging for her favorite treat, hard cheese from Trader Joe’s. Life with Hermione isn’t always calm, but it’s full of love, laughter, and cuddles—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
