Say Hello to the DiCosimo Family

Hello, I’m Charles DiCosimo III and I was born and raised in Manlius, NY. My parents set roots in Manlius in 1977 and my sisters and I are graduates of Fayetteville-Manlius High School. Following graduation from F-M, I attended the University of Rochester, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While I greatly enjoyed studying psychology, I’ve always had a keen interest in the field of orthodontics. My father was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, working side by side with my mother as his nurse practitioner. My parents practiced together for 40 years in the Syracuse area. Having parents in the dental field afforded me the opportunity to shadow their practice as well as several other dental professionals during my high school and early college years.
After graduating from the University of Rochester, I was honored to receive admission to Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. I packed my belongings and left residence in New York for the first time in my life. I spent the next four years learning the art and science of dentistry. In the spring of 2015, I obtained my Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree, graduating magna cum laude. During my final year of dental school, I applied to several orthodontic specialty programs across the country and on match day, I was all smiles to see I had been matched to the Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics residency program at Boston University! It was surreal to know I would get to spend another 3 years in the wonderful city of Boston while working towards my dream of becoming an orthodontist.
Rewinding to the summer of 2012, my girlfriend (now wife), Alissa, and our brand-new puppy at the time, Louie, made the move to join me in Boston. Alissa is also an F-M graduate and had just completed her master’s degree in literacy education at Le Moyne College. Believe it or not, we have known each other since the 3rd grade! Growing up in F-M together, we would consistently cross paths snowboarding at Toggenburg or getting ice cream at Sno Top, where Alissa worked throughout high school. Upon her arrival in Boston, Alissa worked as a nanny for local families while looking for employment in one of the area school districts. She found an elementary classroom in Cambridge, MA dedicated to students with special needs, and it was an absolutely perfect match for her.
Alissa and I thoroughly enjoyed our six years together in Boston. We loved how energetic the city was and how much there was to do around town. We call Boston our “second home” and have friends and memories from there we will cherish our entire lives. While we greatly valued our time there, we knew that our hearts were pulling us back to our roots in Manlius. Both of our families continue to reside here, and it was an easy decision for us to move home once I had completed my residency program. We returned to Manlius in the late summer of 2018. I began working in private practice in North Syracuse while Alissa started a position at Cazenovia Middle School. In December of 2018, we acquired our first home in Manlius and in April of 2021, we welcomed our son Charlie to the world! He is almost three years old and loves construction vehicles, Blippi, Paw Patrol, and making us laugh every chance he gets. He also likes to spend time at the local playgrounds and Story Time at the Manlius Library.
This past year has been one of the biggest to date for our family. We made the decision to build our own orthodontic specialty practice in Manlius. DiCosimo Orthodontics officially opened its doors in March of 2023. Alissa joined the practice as our office manager and treatment coordinator. Our goal is to provide excellent orthodontic care, utilizing the latest cutting-edge technology in a fun, family-centered environment. We are incredibly proud and excited to be providing orthodontic care to this wonderful community we call home.
