Embracing a Century of Elegance: Greenland Hills at 100

Greenland Hills Neighborhood is a hidden gem that has gracefully withstood the test of time, standing strong and true to its origins through a century of history.

Founded in 1923 by the visionary brothers Frank and Fletcher McNeny, Greenland Hills emerged as one of the city's earliest planned neighborhoods, nestled on the northern edge. An idyllic escape with a touch of romance, the developers infused Tudor and Spanish Eclectic styles to craft an architectural masterpiece, envisioning a romantic English countryside ambiance.

Now, in the embrace of 2023, Greenland Hills stands tall as a testament to architectural preservation. The original Greenland Hills Addition has evolved into two distinct conservation districts: the Greenland Hills M Streets and the M Streets East Conservation Districts. Between Central Expressway and Greenville Avenue, and from Greenville to Skillman, these districts have meticulously preserved the neighborhood's century-old atmosphere, ensuring its enduring charm and intimate streetscapes captivate residents and visitors alike.

As Greenland Hills marks its 100-year milestone, we invite you on a captivating journey through time. Join us as we reflect on the magic encapsulated within the six homes showcased during the Preservation Dallas Home Tour this past fall. Each home, a chapter in the unfolding story of Greenland Hills, whispers tales of architectural splendor and community spirit that have defined this remarkable neighborhood.

One of the most memorable parts of the home tour was the opportunity to have First Lady Laura Bush attend, meeting each of the homeowners and setting time in her schedule to come by and meet Pat Copley, an original homeowner in Greenland Hills. They spoke about their parents being builders (Pat's parents built her original home and First Lady Laura Bush's dad was a builder in Midland, TX), Pat's memories of growing up in Greenland Hills, the architecture and how they both have a passion and past in education.
