The Sloot Family: Building Community, Creating Memories, and Embracing Adventure
John, Andee, and their one-year-old daughter, Wesley, moved to The M Streets in 2022, just six months before Wesley’s arrival. Joining them in their cozy home are their two adorable pups, Gary (a French Bulldog) and Shia (a Miniature Schnauzer). And in April, the Sloot family will welcome another baby girl! Both John and Andee work in finance, but their passions and adventures go far beyond their day jobs.
Before moving to The M Streets, John and Andee were no strangers to Greenville Avenue, having lived in a condo just down the street. Andee, a Texas native from El Paso, graduated from Texas A&M University in 2013 and relocated to Dallas shortly thereafter. John hails from the Chicago area and holds an MBA from Roosevelt University. He moved to Dallas in 2014, and the couple met through a dating app—Andee’s first-ever app date! Six months later, they were engaged, and in 2018, they tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Cuba.
The Sloots love to travel, and it’s a family tradition to always have a trip on the horizon. Wesley’s first international adventure took her to Paris at just 10 months old, and her parents are already planning their next overseas trip. She’s proving to be a natural traveler, and her parents couldn’t be prouder.
While Wesley’s current focusese are mastering running and learning to ride her bike, she’s also a big fan of pool time, having enjoyed her first splash-filled summer. Andee, an avid golfer since the age of seven, hopes to get back on the greens more regularly, while John’s love for the ocean has fueled his snorkeling adventures—a passion that often necessitates travel given Dallas’s landlocked location.
The Sloots cherish their walks through the neighborhood and along the Katy Trail, where they often meet fellow residents out with their dogs or kids. They’re drawn to the unique character of each home and love the vibrant community atmosphere. Their favorite local restaurant is Terilli’s, and they frequently visit Glencoe Park for outdoor fun.
Andee is also involved with The First Tee of Greater Dallas, a nonprofit organization that teaches golf and life skills to children. Her brother, who lives in Little Elm, is a full-time coach with the program, and Andee volunteers whenever she can.
The Sloots’ advice for newcomers? “Attend neighborhood events or simply spend time in your front yard—it’s the best way to meet people and feel connected.” They’re still finding their rhythm when it comes to mingling but appreciate every opportunity to get to know their neighbors.
They’re excited to continue exploring The M Streets, meeting neighbors, and creating lasting family memories in their charming neighborhood.
