The Merritt Family

It's Always a Full House

Meet the Merritt’s, Danny and Sarah are the parents of 5 children. Levi, the eldest son, is 16 years old and attends Benedictine, where he is actively involved in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). He is passionate about leadership and has a keen interest in military service. Jack, who is 10 years old, has found his passion at the Forest City Gun Club. Jack's dedication and discipline contribute to his success, and his skills continue to improve as he hones his marksmanship abilities. Dani, their 9-year-old daughter, has a deep love for horses. She enjoys everything about them and is developing her riding skills. Dani spends time at the stable, where she learns about horse care and takes riding lessons. Charli, nicknamed Woo, is the creative one in the family. At the age of 5, she already has a strong passion for art and enjoys creating masterpieces. Beau, the adorable 8-month-old baby, has quickly become the center of attention in the family. The household is rounded out with their two dogs Savannah, a Pointer, and Georgia, a Golden Retriever.

Danny is a Major in the Army and currently serves in the Reserves. He has an impressive military career spanning 21 years and counting. As a combat veteran, Danny served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He and Sarah met in Texas and the rest is history!

Danny and his wife Sarah embody the entrepreneurial spirit. They are the proud owners of several local businesses. Closest to home are Color Geek Salon, Bark & Bubbles Pet Salon, and as of November 2022 opened The Snug Irish Pub all located on Wilmington Island. Color Geek is in the process of expanding operations and will be moving to a larger location, but still on the islands. Bark & Bubbles provides full dog grooming services in the same plaza as the pub. The Snug was a special project close to Danny’s heart. Drawing inspiration from his first job (age 12) at Brennan's, an Irish Pub & Grill, and the cherished memories from generational family pizza nights with bar pies at Colony Bar and Grill (both in Stamford, CT), Danny decided to merge these two “homes away from home”. The Snug Irish Pub was born. They have music every Wednesday, one being a harpist every other week. The simple things in life, beer and bar pie capture the essence of the environment created at The Snug. A home away from home surrounded by friends and music is the perfect distraction from all of life's troubles. You can also try and buy Major Merritt’s Hot Sauce at The Snug or Publix grocery stores across our region. It is manufactured by Georgia Land & Cattle (another Merritt business) which offers small-batch sauces, condiments, seasoning, preserves and pickled items.

In addition to showing their children the value of hard work and pursuing dreams, they place the highest importance on spending quality time together. As a family, they frequently head to a special place in northern Georgia, the Merritt Farm. Here they can slow down their fast-paced lives and enjoy the outdoors. They love to hunt, and fish in their pond on the property. The kids have plenty of room to ride around on side by sides and feeding the cows is always a highlight. They love to travel and explore new places, which they try to do as often as possible. They make an annual summer trip to Germany to visit with extended family on Sarah’s side, further keeping traditions and culture alive. Sarah and all five children have dual citizenship in the US and Germany! Savannah and Long Point have become home and they love making memories and connections with their neighbors and community.
