Sailing, Dining, and Making Waves of Difference

Bluewater Grill and California Inclusive Sailing join forces to create an unforgettable sailing and dining experience.

Earlier this year, Lido resident Christian Buhl met Julie Ann ?? at an Oceana lunch at A’maree’s in Newport Beach. Their conversation included a discussion about California Inclusive Sailing (CIS). Founded by Christian, this volunteer-based organization is dedicated to offering sailing experiences to people with physical limitations at no cost.

The organization frequently provides unique sails with Special Olympics athletes. In fact, each month Christian sails with Special Olympic athlete Mark Wolffer and his mom, Sabrina Wolffer. During these monthly sails, they stop at various restaurants along the coast, taking notes for a special project they're working on - a Sail & Dine Guide.

One of their notable stops during their sailing adventures was a local favorite, Bluewater Grill. The warm atmosphere, the convenience of the guest dock, and the delicious Oysters Rockefeller left a lasting impression on Christian, Mark, and Sabrina. When he mentioned their delightful experience to Julie Ann, she extended an invitation to revisit the restaurant.

Excited about the opportunity, Christian reached out to Heather Leonard, the general manager of Bluewater Grill. Their return visit was met with warmth and enthusiasm, and they were treated to a wonderful lunch where they had the pleasure of meeting Executive Chef Valentin Salas.

The generosity and hospitality of the Bluewater Grill family made a profound impact on Christian and his mission. It's heartwarming to see local businesses like Bluewater Grill supporting organizations like California Inclusive Sailing. Their collaborative efforts are creating memorable experiences for those who might otherwise miss out on the joy of sailing and dining by the sea.
