Cuisine Corner Featuring Selena’s at Willow Lake Tavern

with Lake Forest Resident T. N. Wampler, II

A Creole–Sicilian Gem with Deep Neighborhood Roots
Nestled in one of Louisville’s most recognizable historic dining locations, Selena’s at Willow Lake Tavern blends rich culinary tradition with neighborhood warmth. Long before Selena’s arrival, the building was home to the beloved Willow Lake Tavern, a longtime local gathering place. When the tavern closed, many feared the space would lose its identity. Instead, it was reborn, preserving its welcoming spirit while elevating the food, ambiance, and overall experience.

Since opening in the former Willow Lake Tavern location, Selena’s has become a destination restaurant. Selena’s at Willow Lake Tavern delivers a delicious and welcoming dining experience rooted in Creole and Sicilian cuisine that feels both comforting and adventurous. Standout appetizers (Crab Rolls, Praline Brie), rich soups (Gumbo, Chowder), fresh salads, and hearty entrées that highlight seafood and Italian classics. Under the vision of owner Alan Salmon and supported by a committed team, the restaurant blends tradition with local Louisville charm. With good service, a strong wine/cocktail program, and a warm atmosphere, Selena’s is a go-to for family dinners, weekend brunches, and special occasions alike.

Ownership & Culinary Direction
Owner Alan Salmon is the creative force behind Selena’s. The restaurant is named after an important mentor in his life and culinary career. Salmon first opened Selena’s in Tampa in 1979 and later brought the concept to Louisville, choosing the Willow Lake Tavern site in 2008 specifically for its neighborhood character and history.
General Manager: Christopher (Chris) Gray helps run the daily operations and guest experience.
The kitchen operates under a seasoned culinary team that focuses on fresh ingredients, daily seafood deliveries, and time-honored Creole techniques, supported by Italian influences. The menu reflects careful balance and bold flavors without being overwhelming.
