Tom Wampler: Raising Funds, Changing Lives with Wellspring
Supporting Adults with Mental Illness

Lake Forest resident Tom Wampler has been making a difference in the community through his work with Wellspring, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing supportive housing and mental health services for adults with serious and persistent mental illness.
Founded in 1982 by a small group of community leaders, mental health professionals, and parents, Wellspring began with a single 15-bed residence in Old Louisville. Over the years, it has expanded significantly, now offering nearly 20 diverse housing sites and hundreds of scattered-site apartments to support individuals facing mental illness and homelessness.
As Wellspring continues to grow, so too does the need for ongoing support—and that’s where Tom Wampler plays a key role. Since 2014, Tom has been instrumental in fundraising efforts, particularly through his work on the Derby Party Committee. This committee organizes Wellspring’s largest annual fundraiser, the Derby Preview Party at Churchill Downs, which brings more than 400 guests to Millionaires Row just weeks before the big race. Guests enjoy breathtaking track views, a Chef’s Table buffet dinner, cocktail bars, a bourbon pull, and an exciting auction—all while supporting a vital cause. Each year, this event raises more than $100,000 to fund Wellspring’s housing, crisis stabilization services, evidence-based treatment, and employment programs.
In the past year alone, Wellspring has helped nearly 1,600 individuals, giving them access to the resources they need for recovery and stability. With a daily on-site presence, Wellspring staff provide case management, peer support, life skills coaching and counseling, giving each newly housed client the opportunity to strengthen their personal development and improve their quality of life.
