The Frazee Family

Life, Love, and Caring for Elite Racehorses

For nearly a decade, Tyler and Cheryl Frazee have called Lake Forest home, creating a life filled with family, career passion, and community involvement. With their three children—Madelyn (18), Garrison (13), and Maebrie (13)—the Frazees have embraced every opportunity to build meaningful connections while balancing their professional and personal lives.

Tyler, originally from the small ranching community of Eads, Colorado, spent his summers at the racetrack with his father, who trained Thoroughbred racehorses. His love for animals led him to pursue a degree in animal science from Oklahoma State University, followed by a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Ross University. Cheryl, raised in Moore, Oklahoma, came from a military and education-driven family. She followed her passion into the dental field, earning a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Oklahoma.

The couple’s journey together began on February 13, 1999, when a mutual friend set them up on a blind date. They spent the next 4 ½ years navigating their college careers before tying the knot in November 2003, just as Tyler was completing his clinical veterinary studies.

Tyler has dedicated his career to Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, where he has worked as one of four equine veterinarians there since 2006. The group has the privilege of caring for some of the most prestigious racehorses in the industry. He was kind enough to allow Emily with Stroll LF to follow him along during Derby week last May at Churchill Downs! Churchill is only one of the seven tracks Tyler and his colleagues work with, and Emily was fortunate enough to catch up with him while he was in town for the biggest race of the year. Emily noted that Dr. Frazee and his team are impressive to watch! "They are so passionate about their work and it shows in everything they do. Caring for these animals, working with the trainers, handlers, etc. all comes so naturally to them, and it is impossible not to be in awe of what they do to keep these horses healthy and making sure they are well taken care of."

Cheryl, a dental hygienist, works at Harmon Dental Center, providing compassionate care to her patients. Their children are equally passionate in their pursuits. Madelyn, a senior at Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL), is an accomplished field hockey player, having helped her team win the 2023 state championship. She also plays tennis and recently traveled to Ghana on a life-changing mission trip. Garrison and Maebrie, both in 7th grade at CAL, share a love for music—Garrison plays in the school band, while Maebrie’s marching band placed 6th at Grand Nationals Bands of America.

The Frazee family stays active and connected in Lake Forest. Cheryl plays competitive tennis with her A1 team and USTA leagues at Blairwood and LTC, while Tyler enjoys weekly golf outings locally and in New Orleans with friends from the racetrack.

In the summer, the family spends time at Lake Cumberland, where they own a houseboat at State Dock. Wake surfing, tubing, and relaxing with friends on the water have become treasured family traditions. When not on the lake, they love spending time at the Lake Forest Lodge pool and playing tennis and pickleball on the neighborhood courts.

For vacations, the Frazees like to head to Marco Island, Florida, their favorite getaway destination. And when it comes to dining, they enjoy family dinners and exploring different restaurants, always making time for good food and great conversation.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Frazee family’s journey is their commitment to adoption. In 2012, they completed two domestic infant adoptions, welcoming Garrison and Maebrie, who were born just 11 weeks apart in two different states. Their story is a beautiful testament to love, faith, and the incredible bond that family brings.

As they continue to grow, thrive, and give back to their community, the Frazees embody what makes Lake Forest such a special place—a neighborhood filled with passion, connection, and the spirit of adventure.
