Meet Lake Forest Resident Rachel Stillwell
Bringing Accessible Field Hockey to the Community

Field hockey is more than just a game—it’s a chance to build confidence, make lifelong friendships, and develop important life skills. That’s exactly what Rachel Stillwell and her business partner, Gracie, set out to do when they launched Oldham Hockey this year. Recognizing a need for more flexible and affordable field hockey opportunities, they created a program designed to help players enhance their skills and love for the sport—without the pressure of a club team. Rachel tells us, "Our goal is to grow the sport, support local school programs, and create an inclusive space where every player, no matter their experience, can thrive."
Oldham Hockey offers pop-up clinics, private lessons, local tournaments, and seasonal leagues, giving players the chance to stay engaged in field hockey on their own terms. Their mission is simple: create an inclusive, supportive environment where athletes can thrive as both players and people. Rachel and Gracie believe in changing the coaching culture by focusing on the whole athlete, ensuring that every player is cared for as a human first.
What truly sets Oldham Hockey apart is its intentionality and personalized approach. From the moment players step onto the field, they are welcomed into a community that values growth, confidence, and character just as much as competition. Rachel and Gracie emphasize that while field hockey is fun, the friendships, life lessons, and personal development that come with it are what truly matter in the long run.
Their passion for the sport stems from years of experience and they’ve seen firsthand how important it is to keep youth sports fun and low-pressure. By offering a more flexible alternative to club teams, they help players avoid burnout while still improving their skills and staying connected to the game. They also advocate for multi-sport participation, understanding the value of developing well-rounded athletes instead of forcing early specialization.
Beyond their local programs, Oldham Hockey is dedicated to bringing top-tier field hockey experiences to the community. They frequently invite field hockey stars and experts to lead specialized clinics, giving young athletes a unique opportunity to learn from the best. With exciting events planned for the spring and summer, Rachel and Gracie are committed to creating fresh, engaging opportunities for players of all skill levels.
