Meet Rebecca Estes, Serving with Heart at the Kentucky Humane Society
Rebecca Collier Estes
For more than 15 years, Lake Forest resident Rebecca Estes has dedicated her time and heart to helping animals in need through the Kentucky Humane Society. Her long-standing commitment recently grew even deeper when she joined the organization’s Board, where she has served for the past year.
Rebecca earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and her master’s degree from Bellarmine University, and her lifelong love for animals naturally led her to this cause. “We have always had such a love for animals. They are so special and there are so many in need,” she shared.
Throughout her years of service, Rebecca has supported the Humane Society through meetings, community engagement, and by adopting all of her beloved dogs from the organization. Her involvement has given her a unique perspective on the difference the Humane Society makes every day for animals and families across our region.
One of Rebecca’s current priorities is raising awareness for the Kentucky Humane Society’s All In Campaign, a major fundraising effort to build a new Animal and Community Campus in Louisville. This comprehensive project will create a modern, 54,000 square foot facility that expands space for cats and dogs by 30 percent, adds low-cost veterinary services, increases adoption capacity, and provides more community resources to help pets and their families thrive. With the goal of raising $37 million to support this visionary campus, the campaign invites the community to imagine a place where every animal has access to excellent care, families can easily adopt pets, and resources are available to help keep pets healthy and in their homes.
She encourages Lake Forest residents to consider getting involved in whatever way fits their family and schedule. Monetary donations play an important role in supporting the Capital Campaign, but fostering animals, volunteering at events, donating time and talents, and sponsoring an event or table are also wonderful ways to help. All upcoming opportunities and events are listed on the Kentucky Humane Society website.
Rebecca and her family moved to Lake Forest in May after spending ten years in Springhurst. They were looking for more space and a new setting, and the neighborhood has been a perfect fit. With their children attending Christian Academy of Louisville, the location makes daily transportation and activities especially convenient.
For Rebecca, one of the most meaningful parts of volunteering is sharing those values with her children. She believes strongly in teaching young people the importance of giving back and showing them that service can be a family effort.
“Giving back to your community and teaching your children to do so is so important,” she said. “There are many ways families can get involved.”
Through her dedication to the Kentucky Humane Society, Rebecca Estes continues to make a lasting difference for animals in need and for the community she proudly calls home.
