Meet Susan Abraham: A Lake Forest Neighbor with a Mission for Natural Wellness

For 21 years, Susan Abraham has called Lake Forest home—but her journey to this neighborhood, and to the thriving wellness business she now leads, began decades ago and thousands of miles away.
Born and raised in India, Susan grew up in a home where wellness was woven into daily life. With a father who served as an officer in the Indian Navy and a mother devoted to keeping the family healthy, she remembers a childhood filled with daily vitamins, fish oil, and even monthly castor oil cleanses. "While the castor oil was far from pleasant," Susan laughs, "it was part of the rhythm of our lives—and it kept us healthy."
That deep-rooted appreciation for natural health stayed with her after moving to the U.S. in 1984. But years later, despite continuing her wellness habits, Susan found herself feeling off. Her energy was low, her sinus infections were relentless, and the synthetic supplements she was taking just weren’t cutting it. That’s when a friend introduced her to Shaklee—a trusted wellness company that would transform not only her health but her life’s purpose.
From Personal Healing to Professional Passion
Susan’s healing began with a simple switch. "After months of antibiotics and antihistamines for my sinus issues, I started on Shaklee products. Within weeks, my symptoms were gone—and even my eczema cleared," she recalls. "It was life-changing."
What began as a personal health journey quickly became a family affair. She turned to Shaklee again when her son Jubin, then 12, began struggling with severe migraines. When her young daughter Nisha developed rashes from standard laundry detergent, Susan swapped in Shaklee’s non-toxic cleaning line. The results were powerful—and permanent.
“I realized this was more than a product. It was a lifestyle, and one I felt compelled to share,” she says. That passion grew into a business rooted in trust, education, and care. For nearly 30 years now, Susan has helped others take control of their health through clean nutrition, non-toxic living, and a commitment to wellness backed by science.
What Is Shaklee—and What Makes It Different?
Shaklee is no newcomer to the health and wellness world. Founded by Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee—who created the first U.S. multivitamin in 1915—the company is known for its science-backed nutritional supplements, powerful yet safe household cleaners, and innovative skincare. What sets it apart, Susan says, is a foundation of integrity and innovation.
“Shaklee performs over 100,000 quality tests every year,” Susan explains. “Their products are backed by more than 100 clinical studies, and they’ve even been used on NASA space missions.”
That commitment to purity and efficacy has earned the trust of Olympians, astronauts, and families like the Abrahams—who now use Shaklee products in every room of their home. “I clean my entire house with plant-based products—and yes, they really work!” Susan says with a smile.
She’s also proud to share that Shaklee was the first company in the world to be certified climate neutral, a reflection of its long-standing dedication to sustainability.
Advice from a Neighbor—and Wellness Advocate
Now a proud grandmother to 5-year-old Jackson and 1-year-old Adalyn, Susan feels more passionate than ever about helping others prioritize their health.
“If I could give just one piece of advice to my fellow Lake Forest neighbors, it would be this: invest in your health before you’re forced to,” she says. “Don’t wait for a diagnosis to make a change. Small, consistent choices—what you eat, how you clean, what you put on your skin—they all matter.”
Her encouragement comes from experience: “Stay curious. Be open to natural solutions. That mindset changed everything for me and my family.”
Meet the Abrahams
Susan’s husband, Thomas, recently retired after 37 years of service with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Together, they’ve built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. Their son, Jubin, now lives in Florida with his wife, Brittany, and their children, while their daughter Nisha continues to make her parents proud.
Though Susan’s business is global—she serves clients across the country—her heart is local. “Lake Forest has been such a blessing,” she says. “It’s where we raised our children, built lifelong friendships, and created a home that reflects our values.”
When she’s not working with clients or spending time with her grandkids, you’ll likely find her traveling to learn from other cultures or reminding friends and neighbors to take their vitamins. “If we meet in person,” she says with a laugh, “you’ve been warned—I’ll ask!”
