Flying High with Drone Photography

Perfecting drone photography has been a great experience!

My name is Tyler Aguilar. I am a photographer/videographer from Reno and
an FAA-certified commercial drone pilot, and a college student studying at TMCC.

I have worked with and supplied photos to many companies and entities throughout Reno/Sparks including: Andelin Family Farms, Reno Aces, Boys & Girls Club, Sparks Water Bar, City of Sparks, Cookie Plug, City of Reno, and many more.

I began photography in 2020, in the middle of lockdown. I lost my job due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I spent the last couple hundred dollars I had to purchase a camera. I spent the rest of 2020 studying and improving my photography skills, and I eventually began charging for photoshoots and started growing a following online.

In Fall 2021, I moved into drone photography. I quickly started to love the unique perspective it provided, and the art of learning how to fly the drone itself. It was a whole new ballgame and a new challenge for me. I quickly upgraded to a better drone and continued learning and improving my skills. During 2021, I was lucky enough to photograph a Reno Aces baseball game and it was during the summer of the same year, that I really started to find my footing in the photography industry.

In 2022, I began pushing my drone photography more and more, moving farther away from where I started in traditional handheld photography. This was a year of truly understanding and realizing what I wanted to do in the industry and the direction I wanted to go moving forward. It was in Winter 2022 that I began studying to become a certified commercial drone pilot.

By 2023, I have now built a pretty sizable portfolio of photos, and have started building strong connections in the industry, and began working alongside other photographers.
2023 was my biggest year to date as I saw the most growth with my online following, and sales from selling prints and client work.

In April 2023, I took a collection of aerial photos of Downtown Reno at night, and that set of photos gained a lot of attention online and has become my most successful photos to date.

In February 2023, I became an FAA-certified commercial drone pilot. I spent many weeks studying and preparing for the test, and this certification has opened a lot of doors and opportunities for me as a photographer, and I couldn’t be happier that I took that test and that next step in my photography career.

I am currently studying at TMCC for a Certificate of Achievement in Business Finance and Management.

My most recent work has been with the brand new Cookie Plug store in South Reno, where I made a short promo video to show off their new location.

I now specialize primarily in my aerial/drone work, but I have continued practicing handheld photography as well, and you can often find me on the streets of Downtown Reno, walking around with my camera and photographing everything around me.
