The Witts

Ray and Sandra are the owners of Witt Motors, Inc. in Dumas, a well-known car dealership established in 1964. They also have two beloved pets, Tilly the border collie and Mr. Bojangles the cat, who accompany them on their weekend trips to the lake.

The Witts has lived in the neighborhood for three years and their favorite part about living here is the beauty, peace, sense of community, and of course, the lake. They find great joy in great joy spending time in their boat on the water and appreciating the serene environment.

Ray and Sandra both grew up in Dumas, with Ray being introduced to the world of cars at his father's dealership. He eventually became the General Manager in 1988. The couple got married in 1980 and have been avid car enthusiasts ever since. They have dedicated their free time to building, racing, and showing vintage cars. Ray's passion for cars runs deep, making him a genuine "car guy". Sandra, when not working alongside Ray at the dealership, has been heavily involved in numerous community projects, serving on boards, and organizing events. Sandra has been very involved with her Rotary Club and is currently in training to serve as District Governor that covers 47 clubs across the panhandle and west Texas. And now enjoys getting to know the ladies at the lake thru the ladies’ wine night and meeting to paint with some of those new friends.

Outside of their love for cars, the Witts also have a variety of other interests and activities they enjoy. They have spent time in Red River and Colorado, exploring the beautiful landscapes and enjoying outdoor adventures. Last fall, they embarked on a memorable tour of the Midwest in Sandra's 69 Firebird Convertible with the Barrett-Jackson group. Family is also a significant aspect of their lives, with three grown children and two grandsons who they love to follow around.

Their oldest son, Braden, resides in Massachusetts and works as a city property/building supervisor. He makes the most of his spare time by traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. Their daughter Kayla resides in Denver, Colorado and works as the designer for Brick and Elm Magazine, while also maintaining a full-time job at Kimley-Horn. Kayla’s husband Cliff grew up in Amarillo and graduated at Randall High. He now works for Lockheed Martin. Kayla and Cliff, alongside their 13-year-old son, enjoy camping and hiking in their free time.

Meredith Stover, their other daughter, lives at the lake full-time with her husband Ryan and their 5-year-old son, Brody. Meredith is a senior vice president of Commercial Lending at Prosperity Bank.  Ryan also grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High and works for the family at Witt Motors as the service manager. As a family, they spend most of their free time engaging in water sports like surfing, wakeboarding, and boating. Additionally, the family has a special bond with their former exchange student from South Africa, Sarah, who is now a teacher. Sarah had the wonderful opportunity to spend time at the lake with the Witts this past summer.

The Witt family deeply values their connection and traditions. They are incredibly close-knit and enjoy laughing, playing games, and doing puzzles together. They make it a point to have family vacations in fun and exciting locations. The kids call Sandra most days on their drives home from work, and there are always goofy nicknames and endless laughter. They continue to honor their traditions by always having Christmas crackers and capturing a photo of everyone wearing the silly paper crowns. The family enjoys lots of decorations at the holidays and no one is ever too grown-up to receive an Easter goodie or a stuffed stocking at Christmas.

When it comes to their favorite restaurant, the Witts have a special place in their hearts for OHMS. They also love all the local amazing restaurants that Amarillo has to offer! They also cherish any vacation destination where they can all be together as a family. Sports play a big role in their lives, with the Avalanche and Stars hockey teams being favorites. They also enjoy watching college sports. In terms of entertainment, their favorite TV show is "Grace and Frankie" and their favorite movie is "Field of Dreams". As for music, they have a strong affinity for oldies rock. Sandra, Kayla, And Meredith also have traveled more times than can be counted to see The Avett Brothers.  Ray and Sandra also enjoy going to various concerts at Red Rocks in Denver.

The Witt family, with their shared love for cars, their strong family bonds, and their appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of their neighborhood, make for a wonderful addition to our community. Their presence enhances the sense of unity and camaraderie within our neighborhood, and we are grateful to have them as our Family of the Month.
