What a Transformation!

A Peek Inside the Beautiful Hanko Home

Chosen for its location and spectacular panoramic lake views, this extraordinary Lakeshore property became the new home for Mike and Trish Hanko three years ago.

The Hankos purchased and tore down an original Lakeshore home for the homesite (see photos).  Several years and much research and perseverance were spent just to locate the perfect lot.  Scott Bickford was called upon for the architectural design.  He knew the lot would be challenging, as the goal was to tuck the home and pool into the hillside. Another goal was to highlight the views of the lake from every room.  Lastly, he needed to create the entertaining area in front of the home overlooking the lake and include a flat play area in the backyard for the Hankos' son, Booker.

A forensic engineering firm was called in to ensure everything was completed accurately and without defects. An additional landscape architect was also added to the design team.  Because the home has an upgraded structure, numerous structural engineers were involved during the building process.  The builders selected the leading firm, Gordon Energy & Drainage, to complete the home’s drainage and erosion control plan.

Totaling 5,387 square feet, including four bedrooms, five baths, a four-car tandem garage, and a two golf-cart garage, the home showcases lake views via a 29-foot-living room ceiling with custom, commercial-grade windows.

Throughout the home are two floating staircases and a three-level hydraulic elevator to move around swiftly.  The upgraded structural support enabled the homeowners to incorporate extra-large Italian marble floor tiles typically seen only in commercial venues.  These floor tiles are six feet by two and a half feet long and make a bold and exotic statement upon entering the home.

The overall design style of the home is organic contemporary, and most of the materials used for the design came from nature and are environmentally friendly.

From the master bedroom and living room are pocket and sliding glass doors that open to the covered lanai and are just a few steps away from the custom spa and pool.  The lanai is the Hankos' favorite area of the house to eat and relax.
