Meet Tucker & Hazel!

These sweet silver labs live with the Hedge family here in Kings Point. Tucker is 5 and Hazel is 7. Chris and Laura also have three kids, Maddie (KHS 10th grade), Jacob (RMS 7th grade) & Michael (LSU Senior). Laura is excited to share the story of how Tucker and Hazel joined the Hedge family.
The kids always wanted a dog and we finally settled on a silver lab. A breeder in Katy had all different color labs and we surprised the kids one day by showing up at this country house they thought was a client of mine I was picking up legal documents from. We took the kids to a small pen where two silver male labs were and Jacob (who always asked if he could have a dog and was told no) asked if he could have one and was shocked when we told him “yes.” He picked out the one with the “waggliest tail” and we named him Tucker. He is also known affectionately as Mr. Sniffypants and Mr. Jealous (this last name developed after we adopted Hazel – who we rescued from a family that was not treating her well). Tucker, as sweet as he is, does not like anyone else getting attention. If he notices too much love and kisses with Hazel, he will come over and growl and bark in her face. He will even steal toys right out of her mouth!
Hazel was already named when we adopted her, and we didn’t change her name. We usually call her Miss Hazel, Sweet Girl or Sugar Plum because she is so sweet and loves to give kisses. Two years ago, Tucker and Hazel were regular visitors to the WCE safety patrol drop-off line and many of the neighborhood kids know them. They used to visit Mrs. Inzone who gave treats to all the dogs coming through drop off – we sure miss her!
Both dogs are vegetarians due to their allergies and they sometimes eat better than us! Every meal comes with prescription Vegetarian dog food and fresh frozen carrots. Dinnertime is their favorite meal because they also get their own can of green beans and 100% pure pumpkin added to their dog food. These dogs are spoiled! They get walks twice a day, lounge around all day on an orthopedic dog bed or the cool leather couch and ottoman, and enjoy apples or homemade hydrated sweet potatoes.
They are both incredibly sweet and lavish lots of kisses – Tucker’s tongue is so big he will practically give you a bath! Anytime we come home from work or even the grocery store, he gets so excited like he hasn’t seen you in a week. He will bring us (or any new visitor to the house) one of his favorite toys as a “gift” in the hopes to get some playtime. Hazel will make “happy sounds” when she is getting attention – something she did not often receive at her last residence.
Tucker loves to chase squirrels and lizards! If you see us walking him on the neighborhood trails, he will “hunt” the squirrels and sometimes bark at them in the trees. At home, he goes into complete hunt mode looking for lizards, but they are super hard for him to catch. Hazel is a “counter-surfer” and will literally take a piece of pizza (or anything else – she does not care) right off your plate while you are sitting in front of it! There are too many stories to share about her getting into anything left in her reach. We sometimes call her “Houdini” because she gets into stuff you never thought she could reach. Tucker is our protector, but sweet to anyone who enters our home. Hazel is our food-crazy, attention-loving dog. We are blessed to have the sweetest dogs!
Our love for dogs has spilled over into our desire to provide a fun, clean and family-oriented place for dogs to be washed and groomed. This August we plan to open the first of several “Bubbly Paws” locations in the Houston area at Kingwood Place (Hwy 59 and Northpark by the HEB and Crust Pizza). This upscale self-service dog wash and full-service dog grooming salon will offer its popular “Scrub Club” for unlimited monthly self-service wash and professional groomers to make your dog’s spa services as stress-free as possible. We hope you will bring your pups – small, large, doodles, poodles and everything in between to get Bubbly with us!
