Carmen & Ned Curtis’ Garden

The Valley & Stream

When Carmen and Ned moved to their Tarnhill Drive home in August 2018, they inherited a neglected shady “valley” garden with a trickling stream.  Both Carmen and Ned spent their formative years in Merrillville, Indiana, although Ned is Canadian born.  Of course, there was a gardening learning curve when they moved from their long-time home in Vero Beach, Florida.  Carmen consulted with Trisha King of TTK Design, who executed the garden makeover.  The valley garden is divided into two sections: “America” and “Canada” with the “Ambassador” foot bridge – an homage to Ned’s Canadian roots – connecting the two.

Carmen loves the variety of plants in North Carolina and enjoys the seasonal colors.  The Kenmure Garden Club, which visited recently, has been a good way to learn about NC gardening.  Be sure to wave to Carmen when you see her walking Monty, their Mini Australian Labradoodle and to Ned’s Mother, Mary, who is often out and about with Kobe, her Cairn Terrier.

The Kenmure Garden Club meets monthly in the 2nd Tuesday at 1:30pm, except no meetings in Dec and Jan.
