Grant & Dunne Styling Bar: Where Old Hollywood Glamour Meets Modern-Day Confidence

Janice Pajerski, Owner

Opening a high-end salon wasn’t always part of Janice Pajerski’s plan. In fact, if someone had told her years ago that she’d one day run a full-service styling bar inspired by old Hollywood, she probably would’ve laughed. But life has a way of leading us exactly where we’re meant to be, even if it’s a little later than expected.
Janice grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago in a warm, middle-class home where her parents made her feel like the smartest and most beautiful girl in the world. Still, like many young women, she struggled with confidence, especially during the era of sleek, stick-straight hair - a stark contrast to her naturally curly locks. Over time, and with the help of relaxers, salon visits, and self-discovery, Janice found not only her personal style but a deep appreciation for the impact hair and beauty can have on how someone feels.
She and her husband, Stan, moved to South Barrington nearly 40 years ago to raise their daughters, Jackie and Michelle. Today, their family has come full circle - both daughters have returned to the area with children of their own, continuing the Pajerski family’s deep roots in the community.
As her grandchildren grew more independent and her daughters settled into their lives, Janice found herself reflecting on her own journey. “I realized I still had more I wanted to do,” she recalls. With a lifelong passion for beauty and a heart for helping others feel confident, she decided it was time to create something new-something built not just on style, but on care, connection, and community.
With a clear vision, she began looking for a space large enough not only for styling services, but also for events - weddings, birthdays, fundraisers, even charity nights. That vision came to life with the support of the Heidner family, her talented designer Ellyn, and a team of dedicated architects and contractors. The result is Grant & Dunne Styling Bar, a salon filled with natural light, a party room, and even a full bar. Every detail reflects Janice’s personality and purpose.
Naming the salon was a creative process all its own. A friend and artist, Jason Borbet, asked her what she was passionate about. When she said “old movies” - the real classics from the 1930s and ’40s - he encouraged her to lean into that. The final name is a tribute to two stars from that golden era: Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. Jason even designed the logo. “Eventually, I’d love to host classic movie nights here,” Janice adds.
While the space and the name nod to Hollywood glam, the services offered are as modern and comprehensive as any high-end salon. Grant & Dunne is a full-service salon for both women and men. From expert cuts, color, and blowouts to facials, professional makeup, beard trims, and lash applications, the team handles it all. The salon specializes in relaxing treatments using a non-toxic keratin line called Milkshake and features top-tier product lines like Davines from Italy and Depot for men.
They also offer personalized consultations, particularly for clients experiencing hair loss due to stress, hormones, or illness. “If you’re unhappy with your hair, come in and talk to one of our stylists,” Janice says. “With their expertise and our product line, your hair can become everything you dreamed.”
One client, Debra S., shared a powerful testimonial:
“After struggling with hair loss for years, I had pretty much given up hope. I tried everything—supplements, expensive treatments, you name it. Then I was introduced to the Davines Energizing Shampoo with tonic at Grant & Dunne. I honestly can't believe the difference it's made. Within a few months, I noticed new growth around my hairline, and now my hair feels fuller, stronger, and healthier than it has in over a decade. I finally feel confident again.”
While Janice herself doesn’t work behind the chair, she plays a vital role as owner. “I’m not a stylist. I’m the person behind the scenes making sure my staff has everything they need to succeed. I support them with love, encouragement, and tools that make their jobs easier. They’re the talent. I just make sure the stage is set.”
In the early days, the biggest challenge was finding the right team. “We were determined to create a family-like atmosphere, and it took time to find people who fit that. Now that we’re established, we have so many great applicants, it’s hard to choose.” That culture is part of what makes the salon so special; clients feel it the moment they walk through the door.
Community involvement is another cornerstone of the business. Since opening in January 2024, Grant & Dunne has hosted events supporting organizations like Breast Cancer Research, The Pride Foundation, Gigi’s Playhouse, Lyons Foundation, Folds of Honor, and Barrington Youth & Family Services. It’s a place where clients can get ready for their own special occasions while supporting causes that matter.
Looking ahead, Janice is especially excited to grow the salon’s wedding services. “Our space is perfect for bridal parties and groomsmen. It’s elegant, fun, and accommodating; we love being part of those big moments in people’s lives.”
At its heart, Grant & Dunne Styling Bar is more than just a salon—it’s a celebration of beauty, self-care, and community. For Janice, it’s a dream realized, and one that she now uses to help others feel their best.
