Laura Caldwell & Travis Hill and their daughters Adeline & Eisley

When Laura Caldwell and Travis Hill first visited Charleston, things didn’t exactly go as planned. Escaping snowy New Haven, CT, for a weekend getaway to warmer weather, they ended up in the ER after their then 18-month-old daughter, Adeline, fell from their hotel bed and broke her arm. To make matters worse, they got lost trying to meet friends for dinner. With an irritable toddler in a pink cast in the back seat of their rental car, a wrong turn onto Shelmore Drive added to the chaos.
That’s when something unexpected happened.
“We looked at each other and knew—this is where we want to raise our family,” recalls Travis. And it was perfect timing. Laura, a physician, was wrapping up her four-year residency at Yale, and they were ready for a new adventure. They found it in I’On’s easy blend of community and charm.
Fast forward to 2025, and the couple hasn’t looked back since.
Today, their daughter Adeline, now nine years old, is thriving. Whether she’s swimming at the club, exploring the neighborhood’s playgrounds, or enjoying an ice cream from Square Onion with friends, Adeline is at home in the community. A star student and budding theater enthusiast, she’s just as comfortable on stage as she is in the classroom. When she’s not at the pool, you’ll likely find her performing in the latest production at Mt. Pleasant’s Musical Theatre Center.
Adeline’s younger sister, Eisley, is already making her mark. At just three years old, Eisley loves the fairy garden, the new Ramble playground, and watching the ducks, turtles, and dogs around Westlake. She’s also a little adventurer, always eager to explore the woods and discover new corners of the neighborhood – preferably without shoes and in an Elsa gown.
But it’s Finley, their 110-pound Bernese Mountain Dog, who has become the family’s unofficial ambassador. His friendly tail wags and the occasional dog lick have made him a beloved figure in the neighborhood, often found lounging on the front porch, greeting passersby with his gentle demeanor.
The family enjoys spending time in Vermont, where Travis grew up. The family makes it a priority to stay connected to the slower pace of life. There, they embrace the cooler weather, fresh vegetables from local farm stands, mountain hikes, swimming in rivers, and the kind of serenity you can only find in the mountains. The motto of an outdoor school Adeline attended there one winter, “there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing,” encompasses the attitude they embrace while visiting the Green Mountain State. Their girls are as comfortable picking up beetles and worms as they are putting on summer dresses and dancing to Taylor Swift.
Travis, Vice President at a software and consulting firm, also runs a commercial real estate company focusing on renovating and developing vacation and commercial properties in Vermont. The next big project on the horizon? Transforming a 75-acre wooded landscape into a multi-family resort, complete with ice skating tracks, hiking trails, fire pits, and maple tree tapping— a dream project that blends his love for real estate with his deep connection to nature and the rural landscape.
Meanwhile, Laura, a physician at a national concierge practice focusing on preventative health and wellness, is deeply committed to helping her patients lead healthier lives. With a focus on plant-based nutrition and well-being, Laura takes an integrative approach to medicine. As a physician and a mom, she knows the importance of balance—whether it’s spending time with her daughters, sharing her passion for wellness, or experimenting with new plant-based recipes at home.
As the family continues to grow in I’On and beyond, they’ve found the perfect balance—anchored in the strength of community, the beauty of both rural and urban life. What started as a chaotic weekend getaway has turned into a story of serendipity, roots, and a deep connection to the place they now proudly call home.
