Meet Rocky, Amber, Addison, and Rylee

Rocky and Amber Young along with their daughter Addison,13, and Rylee, 8, reside in the Bloomingdale subdivision.

Amber shared a bit of her background with Stroll Hurricane. “I graduated with my BSN in 2003 from West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery.  I started my profession as an RN on 7south at CAMC General on a med-surg/ telemetry unit. Throughout the years, I worked as a bedside nurse, while working with kidney transplant patients as well. During my career, I have also been a charge nurse for 15 years. Currently, I am the Clinical Management Coordinator for the unit and have done this for almost 2 years.

As far as Rocky, he graduated from Marshall University in 2022 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration with minors in Finance/Economics. He commented. “I began working for Huntington Banks as a credit analyst for 5 years, Fifth Third Bank as a senior credit analyst 3 years then became a commercial lender with Chase for 4 years and currently I serve as a commercial lending for Poca Valley Bank, a position I have held for over 10 years.”

Hailing from small West Virginia towns—Cedar Grove for Amber and Dille for Rocky. He attended  Nicholas County High School in Summerville, while Amber graduated from Dupont High School.

Amber told us how they first met,  "Rocky and I met at a Marshall football game in the winter of 2003, playing against Buffalo." Rocky added,  “ I called Amber’s work while she was on night shift to ask her out for the first time as I didn’t have her phone number.  That would probably be considered stalking in today’s environment, but luckily she said yes instead of hanging up.” The couple were married at Berry Hills Country Club on August 4th, 2007.

The Youngs have two daughters, Addison and Rylee. Amber commented, “ Addison has been on the Hurricane Middle School Dance team for 3 years.  She also has been dancing at Dancing Unlimited since 2013 and is on the competition team going on her 7th year. Addison is also a member of the Student Council, FCA, and National Junior Honor Society. Rylee is in the 2nd grade at West Teays Elementary, has been dancing with Dancing Unlimited since 2018, and has been on the competition team starting her 3rd year.”

Rocky enjoys outdoor activities, including golf, skiing, playing basketball, and trail running. He added, “I recently began attending country concerts with Addison after swearing off country music in Elementary school.” On the other hand, Amber states, “I like to relax with a good book.”

Rocky is involved in several non-profit boards including The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce (former President of the board); Putnam County Development Authority (current treasurer) and the Big Green Scholarship Foundation board raising money for student-athletes.

The Youngs' favorite vacation destinations include Disney, New York, or any locale with white sandy beaches. Recently the family has begun taking short vacations around Thanksgiving instead of cooking large family meals, going to Hilton Head Island, Gatlinburg, and Cleveland.

Balancing the demands of their professions and extracurricular activities, the Youngs find solace in family dinners—whenever they aren't on the road for dance drop-offs.

Having called Bloomingdale Subdivision home since August 2007, the Youngs share a deep appreciation for the community's warmth and love. Amber aptly puts it, "Bloomingdale Subdivision isn't just an address for us; it's a place filled with cherished memories, lifelong friendships, and the enduring warmth of home." Rocky echoes this sentiment, saying, "When looking for a home before getting married in 2007 we looked at several areas but decided on the Bloomingdale in Hurricane as it was in the middle of our work locations and close to the interstate. Since then we couldn't imagine living anywhere else, and feel like God was with us in selecting the area with all the friendships we have made and the love from the community we have felt since being a part of it over 15 years ago."

The Hurricane community is blessed that the Young Family decided to locate here and become an important part of our community.
