Brodee Lucas: Pitching with Passion and Purpose

Sixteen-year-old Hurricane High School sophomore Brodee Lucas is no stranger to the baseball diamond. The son of Joey and Selena Lucas, Brodee comes from a sports-loving family. His older sister, Rielly, is a standout senior softball player at Marshall University, and his younger sister, Laney, attends Cabell Midland High School. With a strong foundation of support behind him, Brodee is building a name for himself as a talented pitcher with big dreams and an even bigger work ethic.
Brodee’s baseball journey began when he was just four years old. Now, with 12 years of experience on the mound, he’s developed into one of the top players in his class. “I’ve played this game most of my life,” Brodee told Stroll Hurricane. “It’s fun, competitive—and I really like winning.”
It’s not just the thrill of victory that keeps him coming back. For Brodee, the camaraderie of his teammates is just as important. “Our team chemistry is really good,” he said. “We all get along more like brothers than just teammates. We have fun together and get excited when each other succeeds.”
That brotherhood has helped Brodee reach impressive heights. His accolades include recognition on the 2025 PG Preseason Underclassmen All American Teams, Perfect Game (PG) Top Rank Position in State, and selection to the PG All Tournament Team in2022, 2023, and 2024.
When asked what he’s learned most from baseball, Brodee doesn’t hesitate: “I’ve learned that you can have fun while working hard.” It’s a mindset he credits in part to his favorite coach, Coach Brian Sutphin. “He’s taken the time to develop me not only as a player but also puts effort into making me a better person. He’s there for me beyond the game. I could go to him for anything.”
Looking ahead, Brodee is focused on the future, but he’s not rushing it. “If the right baseball offer comes along, I would love to play in college,” he said. “I have a few more years to put the work in to get the right offer, though.”
Until then, he’s soaking in every moment of his high school baseball career. “So far, all of my moments are favorites,” he said. “But I’m excited about this season. I feel like our team is peaking at the right time, and we’ll be able to go the distance and win a state title.”
Brodee’s advice to young athletes just getting started? “Do something every day to make yourself better.”
With his mindset, talent, and support system, Brodee Lucas is poised to keep making headlines—both on and off the field. Good luck to Brodee and his teammates on their quest for a state championship!
