Pamplemousse Vanderbilt Scofield, the Jet-Setting Pup with a Big Heart
From Tennessee beginnings to Upper East Side playdates, this globe-trotting rescue knows how to live life to the fullest.
Christi and Ted Scofield’s beloved rescue pup, Pamplemousse Vanderbilt Scofield, has a story as unique as her name. At just seven weeks old, she and her siblings were abandoned at a shelter outside Nashville, Tennessee. Luckily, Social Tees Animal Rescue, a Manhattan-based organization, transported the litter to New York City, where Pamplemousse was adopted on her 8-week birthday.
Her name reflects her family’s love for French culture. “Pamplemousse,” which means grapefruit in French, has a playful ring to it, while “Vanderbilt” honors both her dad Ted’s alma mater, Vanderbilt University, and her Tennessee roots. Of course, it also gives her an air of sophistication that suits her New York lifestyle.
Now nine years old, Pamplemousse has grown into quite the seasoned traveler. With 124 flights under her collar and visits to 26 states plus Washington, D.C., she is always eager to explore new places. Her travels are more than just for fun; she proudly serves as Chief Barketing Officer of Jet Set Pets, a guide to the best dog-friendly cities, events, and experiences across the country. You can follow her adventures at www.jetsetpets.com.
At home, Pamplemousse splits her time between Old Northeast in Florida and the Upper East Side of Manhattan. In St. Pete, she loves chasing tennis balls in her yard, while in New York, she “volunteers” in Central Park, helping visitors find their way with her friendly presence. No matter where she is, she charms everyone with her cheerful spirit and impeccable manners.
One of her funniest quirks appears whenever she checks into a hotel. After a full inspection of the room (corners, furniture, and bed), she’ll carefully select the perfect spot for her food and water bowls. Once everything is in order, she’s ready to relax, provided her duties as Chief Barketing Officer don’t call her away.
Around Old Northeast, Pamplemousse is something of a local celebrity. With her routine 20 to 30 miles of walking each week, she’s a familiar face along Beach Drive, where she enjoys stopping into restaurants and shops to greet her friends. Her favorite fountain is at dog-friendly Annex 400 Beach, where she always pauses to say “bonjour.”
From her rescue beginnings to her jet-setting lifestyle, Pamplemousse proves every day that rescue dogs can live extraordinary lives filled with love, adventure, and purpose.
