From Morning Radio to Emmy Wins: Meet Kenzie Roman

With over 12 years of experience in broadcasting, Kenzie Roman is a familiar name—and voice—in Chicagoland. She’s the vibrant morning show host on Q101, waking up the city from 6 to 10 AM every weekday. But Kenzie’s reach goes far beyond radio. Alongside her husband and creative partner, Justin Roman, she’s co-created an award-winning brand that has earned them three Emmy Awards and brought exciting, fresh energy to TV and digital media.
Together, they’ve built Kenzie & Roman, a dynamic brand that showcases their talent and chemistry both on and off the mic. They earned three Emmy Awards for ABC 7’s Countdown Chicago, hosted their own television show The MVP Game on the Chicago Cubs’ Marquee Network, and launched The ROMANce Podcast, a lighthearted and honest take on relationships. Their on-air magic is matched by their off-air teamwork: Kenzie is the big-picture dreamer, while Justin brings calm structure and execution. The balance works perfectly, especially in a house with two young boys.
Kenzie and Justin are parents to Tristan, age 11, and Marino, who’s 17 months. Tristan is entering junior high this year, where he’s known for being smart, kind, and athletic—a natural leader who was class president last year and plays both soccer and baseball. Marino, named in honor of Justin’s late father, is full of energy and adventure. “Even though they never met, giving him his grandfather’s name gives our family a beautiful connection,” says Kenzie.
Originally from North Carolina, Kenzie has also lived in Minnesota and Florida, but she always dreamed of calling Chicagoland home. Her father is from the area, and when her radio career finally led her to Illinois, she planted roots. She earned a scholarship to Brown College, where she graduated with a degree in Broadcasting. Ironically, she met Justin after her boss introduced them—Kenzie initially thought the meetup would feel like a long interview, but within the hour, Justin told her they’d end up married. He was right.
Outside of broadcasting, Kenzie is involved in modeling, voice-tracking, and event hosting. She’s also known for going all out on holidays—Halloween is a favorite, and by November, her home is filled with up to seven Christmas trees. “I want my kids to grow up remembering magic,” she says.
The Roman family enjoys summer golf cart rides to the neighborhood pool, dinners at Carmina’s, and treats at Legit Dogs and Ice. They proudly support Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch and contribute to charities like Cesco’s Heart, PADS, the Boys and Girls Club, and Ronald McDonald House.
Whether she’s on air, on screen, or simply making memories with her family, Kenzie Roman is a shining example of what it looks like to build the life you love—one dream, one project, and one holiday at a time.
