Bodhi the Golden Doodle: Highland Lakes’ Friendly Neighborhood Pup

This joyful, squirrel-spotting, cookie-loving companion brings endless energy, love, and laughter to the Humbert family and beyond.

Bodhi enjoys the beach and the ocean waves.

If you live in Highland Lakes and you’ve ever seen a fluffy golden doodle bounding down Augusta Trail with purpose in his eyes, chances are you’ve met Bodhi Winston Humbert. At 75 pounds, Bodhi is hard to miss—especially with his golden caramel coat that can be soft, fluffy, or adorably wiry, depending on his last haircut. But it’s not just his looks that turn heads—it’s his personality.
Bodhi is the beloved dog of Brittany, Brett, and sisters Rowan and Reese Humbert. From the moment he entered their home, Bodhi brought them more joy than they could have imagined. Whether waking them up in the morning with enthusiastic tail wags or greeting them after school with his signature full-body wiggle, Bodhi makes every day brighter.
Bodhi’s favorite daily activity? Walks. He especially loves his route down Augusta Trail, the neighborhood bike path, and the driving range. It’s not just exercise—it’s a mission. Bodhi takes great pride in spotting squirrels, tracking bunnies (or “Bun-Buns” as his humans call them), and collecting the occasional lost golf ball. When he’s not on patrol, you can find him perched at the window, watching the backyard for wildlife and daydreaming about his subsequent chase.
Summer brings even more joy. Bodhi is a big fan of Lake Huron, where he swims in the clear blue water and fetches sticks at the shoreline. He’s a natural water dog and relishes every splash-filled moment.
Socially, Bodhi is quite the popular pup. His best friend—and sweetheart—is Rosie, a sweet dog who lives just a few houses down. Their relationship is serious enough that Bodhi sometimes lets himself into Rosie’s house, where he’s learned the fine art of charming Glenna, Rosie’s mom, into giving him treats. Rosie’s sister Lorna is a bit more reserved, but she joined the fun for Bodhi’s second birthday celebration, where the dogs enjoyed cookies and frolicked in the backyard. That said, Bodhi did eat Lorna’s cookie—and his own—which may have slightly tarnished his hosting reputation.
Despite his occasional cookie theft or stolen hamburger from a sister’s plate, Bodhi is a remarkably sweet and patient dog. He lets Rowan and Reese crawl all over him and never complains. He even has a unique talent: welcoming guests with a shoe. That’s right—he will greet every visitor with a shoe in his mouth as a gift. Whether or not it’s the guest’s shoe is beside the point. It’s the thought that counts.
Bodhi can do all the classic tricks—sit, stay, shake, roll over—but catching treats is not his forte. Toss him a snack, which will likely bounce off his nose. But Bodhi doesn’t mind. He’s just happy to be surrounded by the people (and dogs) he loves.
The Humberts say they never knew how much joy a dog could bring until Bodhi came into their lives. Not only was he wanted, but he was exactly what their family needed.
