Paws, Play, and Personality: Inside the Houchin Family Pack

Meet Tucker and Nala, the lively, lovable dogs of Highland Lakes who bring nonstop energy, unforgettable quirks, and heartwarming companionship to their family—and the entire neighborhood.

Nala

In the Houchin household, everything comes in twos—two kids, two cats, and two beloved dogs who are truly the heart of the family. Tucker and Nala aren’t just pets; they’re companions, entertainers, and local celebrities in Highland Lakes.
Tucker, a two-year-old blue merle Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is a showstopper with piercing blue eyes, a pink-spotted nose, and a big fluffy tail that curls over his back when he’s happy—which is most of the time. Unlike most corgis, Tucker’s rare coloring and long tail make him stand out, but it’s his affectionate and goofy personality that wins people over. He insists on being involved in everything—if you’re folding laundry, he’s on top of it. Cooking? He’s underfoot. Even a bathroom break isn’t complete without Tucker waiting loyally by the door. His true passion? Swimming in his kiddie pool on the patio. Watching him splash, zoom, and spray water everywhere has become a form of entertainment in itself—just don’t stand too close unless you’re ready to get wet!
Nala, the family’s 10-month-old blue heeler, is equally unique in spirit. With her long legs, bat-like ears, and a black-and-white coat, she resembles the animated character Bluey come to life. But unlike Tucker’s laid-back cuddles, Nala is all energy, all the time. Always on the go and eager for a job to do, she thrives on attention and activity. If you’re willing to throw a ball—even once—you’ll instantly become her best friend. While Tucker tries in vain to get her to join him in the pool, Nala prefers dry ground where she can show off her vertical jumps and impressive toy-catching skills.
Both pups were adopted from breeders in Ohio and have grown up as central figures in the Houchin family’s day-to-day life. Tucker has even made a best friend in the neighborhood—Boomer, the 15-year-old dog next door, who often wanders over to see if Tucker can come out and play or sneaks into the garage for a surprise visit.
What the family loves most about their dogs is their vibrant personalities. Tucker has an entire repertoire of tricks—he can “dance,” shake, and even balance a treat on his nose until given the okay. Nala is known for her almost-backflip jumps and constant eagerness to please. One of the funniest household traditions began when someone sprinted upstairs, and Tucker, not wanting to be left behind, cried and chased after them. Now, it’s a running game that guests often find hilarious to witness.
Whether snuggling up for movie nights on the couch or running full speed through the yard, Tucker and Nala are more than just pets—they’re family. Their presence brings warmth, humor, and a whole lot of tail-wagging joy to everyone lucky enough to know them.
