South Lyon Cycle

When shopping for a bicycle, many people focus on price first. But according to the team at South Lyon Cycle, finding the right fit is far more important than finding the lowest price.

"The perfect bike for one person could be completely wrong for another," says Austin of South Lyon Cycle. "The most important factors are quality, fit, and function. The right bike should fit your body, fit your riding goals, and provide years of enjoyment."

One of the most common mistakes Austin sees is someone purchasing a bike because it seems like a great deal, only to discover later that it's the wrong size or the wrong style for how they actually ride.

"A great deal on a bike isn't really a great deal if you're uncomfortable and don't enjoy riding it," he explains.

Whether you're considering a casual cruiser, an e-bike, a mountain bike, or a performance road bike, South Lyon Cycle recommends starting with a conversation about how and where you plan to ride.

The bike that's perfect for tackling mountain trails in Colorado may not be the best choice for riding neighborhood paths, local trails, or family rides here in Michigan. Lifestyle, physical ability, family activities, and future goals all play a role in selecting the right bike.

Once you've found the right bike, proper maintenance becomes equally important.
"A properly adjusted and maintained bicycle is safer, more enjoyable, and will last significantly longer," Austin says. "Something as simple as checking tire pressure regularly and keeping your chain lubricated can make a huge difference."

Most importantly, South Lyon Cycle encourages people to ask questions.
"We love helping people find the right fit. Whether you need a repair, are considering a new bike, or just want an honest assessment of the bike sitting in your garage, we're here to help you make the most of every ride."

Expert Tip
Before purchasing a bike, ask yourself three questions:
  1. Where will I ride most often
  2. Who will I ride with?
  3. What do I want this bike to help me do?
The answers will help guide you toward a bike you'll enjoy for years rather than one that simply looked like a good deal.
