Life, Love, and Plenty of Treats in Hidden Lake

Sadie the golden doodle shares her joyful, affectionate spirit and the Sonnichsen family’s love for Hidden Lake, reminding us how pets make a neighborhood feel like home.

Hi neighbors! My name is Sadie, and I’m the proud four-legged member of the Sonnichsen family—John, Stephanie, Carter, Sean, and Kyle. We’ve been part of Hidden Lake since 2019, though I officially joined the family a little earlier, just after Christmas in 2016. My humans surprised the kids with me as a fluffy, outgoing puppy, and I’ve been keeping life fun ever since.

I’m a golden doodle, which means I’m equal parts playful and affectionate. I absolutely love people and soak up attention whenever I can. Other dogs, though? Not so much—I’m a little shy around them. But give me a car ride to visit my college-aged brothers, a game of fetch in the backyard, or one of my daily walks around Hidden Lake Estates, and you’ll see me at my happiest.

Speaking of walks, I have a silly little ritual that makes my family laugh every time: before my leash can go on, I must spin in a circle. No exceptions. It’s my own way of saying, “Let’s go, let’s go!”

I’m also a bit of a foodie. Vanilla ice cream is my all-time favorite treat, but the vacuum? Terrifying. If I could talk for a day, I’d probably tell Mom she doesn’t pet me enough—or give me enough treats and ice cream. Honestly, who could say no to this face?

The truth is, I give my family way more than I get. No matter how long they’re gone an hour or a whole day I miss them fiercely and greet them at the door like it’s been forever. Sometimes I even cry with excitement when they walk back in. My love is unconditional, and in return, I’m spoiled with plenty of affection. Stephanie and I share an especially close bond—we’re the only girls in the house, after all!

I’m also proud of how smart I am. I pick up new commands quickly, which makes my humans pretty impressed. But at the end of the day, what I really want is simple: time with my family, long walks in our beautiful neighborhood, and as many pets as possible.

If I were the mayor of Hidden Lake, my first order of business would be to make sure every resident stopped to say hello and give me a pat on the head. I’m convinced the world would be a happier place if everyone spent a few minutes with me each day. Pure joy is contagious!

Our family loves living in Hidden Lake because it feels like a true community. We’ve enjoyed getting to know neighbors through this magazine and love seeing all the wonderful things happening here. From my perspective, it’s a pretty great place to grow up—whether you’re two-legged or four.

So next time you see me out on a walk, don’t be shy—stop and say hi! A scratch behind the ears is all it takes to make my day (though, if you happen to have ice cream, even better).
