If you've spent any time around Harwich Port lately, chances are you’ve seen the work—or at least the impact—of Knights Wood Works. Founded in 2023 by local craftsman and family man, Chris Knight, the business has quickly gained a reputation for high-quality custom carpentry and a refreshingly honest approach to customer service.

Raised in Needham, Massachusetts, Chris moved to Southern California as a teenager and began an early career in the film industry. “I always considered myself an artist first,” he shares. His experience in Los Angelas included acting, writing, producing, and playing music. But where he felt most at home was backstage, designing sound stages, building intricate sets and discovering a newfound passion for the woodworking trade. Eventually, that passion led him back to his New England roots, where he dove headfirst into the construction industry. “I started as a laborer and framer and just tried to soak up as much as I could. That’s my mentality still today—always be learning.”

While working for a general contractor building high-end homes in the Boston area, Chris met his future wife, a Cape Cod native who introduced him to life on the Lower Cape. When their first child was on the way, they decided to make the move permanent. “It wasn’t just a dream come true, it was also a sensible decision for our budding family,” he says. Now, five years and three kids later, they’ve put down strong roots in Harwich Port. “It takes more and more to get us over the bridge for anything,” he laughs. 

Knights Wood Works was born out of both skill and observation. “I noticed an industry void of licensed professionals for smaller projects," Chris says. "People needed these professionals, but couldn’t get the time of day from bigger contractors. That didn’t sit right with me.” He set out to build a business where every client, regardless of project size, would be treated with professionalism, transparency, and respect.

From custom decks and cabinetry to doors, windows, siding, and flooring, Knights Wood Works offers a wide range of services—but what truly sets the business apart is its passion for creative, customized solutions. “I really thrive on specialty projects that require outside-the-box thinking. That’s what makes this industry so much fun, almost no two jobs are completely alike.”

His advice for neighbors considering a renovation or remodel? Keep an open mind. “Whether you’ve been doing this for 50 years or just finished trade school, there’s always something new to learn. There’s more than one way to do anything—don’t box yourself in with a closed mind.”

And if your project isn’t the right fit for Knights Wood Works? “We may not be the right guys for every job, but I’ll look at just about anything. And if it’s not for us, I can probably point you in the right direction.”
