BROCK GOODLING, Northwestern Mutual

Wealth Management and Financial Planning

One of the greatest blessings in my life has been calling Western North Carolina home. This is where I met my wife, Samantha, and together we’ve been blessed with four amazing children—two of whom are under the age of two! Life is definitely busy these days, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

When I’m not at work or spending time with my family, I enjoy giving back to the community by serving on several local boards, coaching youth basketball, and, whenever I can sneak away for a few hours, playing golf. If you ever have trouble finding me on a free afternoon, there’s a good chance I’m somewhere on the course at the Country Club of Asheville.

My career certainly didn’t follow the path I originally planned. I played baseball at Clemson University while studying nursing, but after an injury changed those plans, I transferred to Winthrop University, and then eventually Anderson University, where I finished my college baseball career as a Division II All-American and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Ironically, I never worked in the psychology field. A friend convinced me to join him at a community bank in South Carolina, and that decision completely changed the direction of my career. I started as a bank teller and eventually worked my way up to becoming a commercial loan officer serving businesses throughout Western North Carolina.

Looking back, I realize that my psychology degree has been incredibly valuable. Success in almost any profession comes down to understanding people, building trust, and genuinely wanting to help. Those principles have guided me throughout my career and continue to shape the way I serve my clients today.

That passion ultimately led me to wealth management and financial planning. Today, I have the privilege of helping individuals, families, and business owners build long-term financial security and generational wealth. Thanks to my background in commercial lending, I have a deep understanding of the financial system and the liabilities side of the balance sheet. This knowledge gives me the ability to specialize  in working with business owners on maximizing the asset side of the balance sheet. I understand the challenges they face because I’ve spent years sitting on both sides of the table. Now, instead of simply helping businesses borrow money, I help owners build strategies that strengthen their businesses, reduce taxes where appropriate, protect what they’ve built, and create lasting wealth for their families.

I joined Northwestern Mutual in Asheville because I believed it offered the best platform to deliver comprehensive planning—not just investments or insurance, but strategies that bring every piece of a client’s financial life together and maximize their entire balance sheet.

Last year, I was honored to be recognized as the firm’s #2 top-producing advisor and receive the Bronze Award for my work with local business owners.

Many people don’t realize how powerful insurance and wealth planning strategies can be for business owners. When designed correctly, insurance contracts as an asset can provide significant tax advantages, bankruptcy protections, improve cash flow, protect the business from tragedy, and create financial security for generations. When these complex insurance strategies are coupled with strong, disciplined market facing investments - a business can experience life changing optimization and security. Whether you’re just getting started, growing a business, or planning for retirement, I’d love the opportunity to get to know you and see how I can help.

Feel free to stop by anytime or call my cell. The coffee is always on, and I’d be happy to sit down and chat.
