Meet Gino Catenacci with Gino’s Vino on the Green

If you’re one of those folks who say, “We don't have good restaurants in Leander,” you’ve got to give Gino’s Vino on the Green a try — even if you’re not a golfer!

Fine dining requires Gino wearing a tie, which you'll find him wearing at the Austin location.

Positioned inside the Crystal Falls Golf Club, this is the third restaurant Gino Catenacci has opened in Central Texas. Gino's Vino on the Green just celebrated their first anniversary. With a year of serving both the golfer community and dinner crowd, Gino has learned a lot about the expectations of his patrons. It is with this that he announces his plans to revamp the concept, moving from fine dining to casual dining, by introducing a new menu full of great appetizers and handhelds like fire-grilled burgers, tacos, mesquite smoked sausage dogs, meatball hoagies and more. Gino is offering breakfast sandwiches and wraps, daily buffet specials and grab-and-go lunch items, too!

The golf course setting couldn't be better. Take your pick of seating inside (bellied up to the bar or at a dining table) or outside to enjoy the weather and surrounding beauty. Knowing that golfers will stop by for a quick bite or beer on the go throughout the day, nongolfing patrons are encouraged to make Gino's Vino on the Green their go-to breakfast or lunch destination. There’s even a sensational Sunday brunch menu featuring crepes, waffles, pancakes, biscuits, creamsicle and traditional mimosas and a secret-recipe bloody mary. There truly is something for every taste!

Are you still looking for fabulous Italian flare? He serves classics like veal parmesan and scallopini di mare, tagliatelle Bolognese, lasagna di casa, calamari, antipasti and nearly every type of ravioli, risotto and fresh pasta dish — homemade from scratch daily — at his location in Central Austin. With loads of five-star reviews, Gino’s Vino Osteria has been named the highest-rated Austin Italian restaurant in online review scores from Yelp, Google, Facebook and TripAdvisor. This is real-deal Italian!

Love the casual concept? Visit Little Gino's Sports Pub, located in Round Rock! The menu is a hybrid, including all of the great new handhelds as well as a few entree items and pasta dishes his followers have loved for years.

Owner Gino Catenacci is the grandson of Italian immigrants who came over from Italy and settled in the Detroit, MI, area in the early 1900s. Gino started out in the bistro and bar business when he was just 12 years old, bussing tables at his Uncle Marco’s restaurant. Marco’s had a special section and a tap room area, which featured all types of live music, from blues to rock and jazz. Young Gino dreamed of someday owning a place like Marco’s, and he kept the idea of a quaint family Italian Osteria with live music in the back of his mind for decades.

As Gino worked his way up through the restaurant business at resorts such as The Boca Hotel and The Breakers Palm Beach, as well as national restaurant chains such as Lawry’s and McCormick & Schmick’s, he learned the business inside and out, seeing what works and what doesn’t in the competitive restaurant industry. Finally, in the early 2000s, Gino opened his first venue, Gino’s Vino Wine Bar, in Dallas. Gino built up a faithful clientele and established a reputation as a creative and skilled bartender, winning the 2012 Dallas Restaurant Week cocktail competition with his original Sparkling Blood Orange Martini.

In 2015, Gino moved to Austin with his wife, Li Ping, and son, Little Gino, and founded the first Gino’s Vino Osteria in Central Austin. In 2019, Gino’s dream expanded to Round Rock, where he offers customers a cozy family setting. With the Crystal Falls Golf Club location, Gino’s vision is fulfilled as he brings casual dining and old-world style Italian charm and ambience to the golf course and surrounding community.

“I love feeding people," Gino says, "whether it's in Leander at the golf course, Round Rock or Austin. Either way, people are always surprised to find an old-fashioned Italian guy like me running it." Gino is humble; he works his tail off, and you’ll often find him in the kitchen, behind the bar whipping up one of his award-winning cocktails or out on the floor chatting with patrons. Wife and business partner Ping is also very hands-on and makes her appearance quite often. Gino’s Vino on the Green is a refreshing change from today’s corporate eateries. It’s a place where the owner greets you at the door, the waitstaff is friendly and attentive, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is one of a kind!
