Making Landscape Dreams Come True

Hello! My name is Aida Hyde, and I am the owner and principal at Via Flora Landscapes, a boutique landscape design studio focused on residential garden design.

I grew up in Puerto Rico, and after a brief 13-year adventure in the northeastern U.S., I moved to Chapel Hill with my family in 2022. From the minute I arrived in this beautiful state with my husband and daughter, I knew this was home. Being in Chapel Hill lets us enjoy weekend trips to the beach (my favorite!) or go water skiing, canoeing, and sailing on the nearby lakes. Having the North Carolina Botanical Garden and the Coker Arboretum nearby allows me to cultivate my passion for plants and stay in touch with the amateur botanist inside.

Via Flora Landscapes got its start in 2020 after my daughter was born. Being homebound during that time let me see with fresh eyes just how important our immediate environment is to our physical and mental health. Landscape isn’t just about plants in a garden – it’s also about how we choose to show up in these spaces and nurturing our connection to nature.

My undergraduate studies in biology and botany took me to parts of Puerto Rico that few people get to see and set the foundation for a love of plants and nature that continues with me today. Later, as a graduate student in landscape architecture at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, I was able to use my science background to inform design and focus on creating experiences that reconnect us to the natural world. When I think back to some of my most treasured memories, there is always a scent, a color, or a view associated with those feelings. Now as a landscape designer, I get to use plants and hardscape materials to interpret nature, create usable spaces, and help every client make memories in their home that encompass all their senses.

We can help you make the most out of your property, whether it is finding solutions for a troublesome spot, giving you recommendations and ideas for your DIY project, or designing a brand-new space from scratch. In addition to design, we offer on-site consultations, master planning, and project administration services to fit your unique needs. Our approach is based on a solid foundation of plant and ecology studies and over 5 years of experience in the field of landscape architecture. We also bring with us an understanding of maintenance practices, project management, and construction. We take pride in our ability to listen carefully to our clients and turn their needs and expectations into beautiful and functional spaces they will enjoy for many years. Making landscape dreams come true is the best part of my job.

Three years after taking a leap of faith and starting this company, and then picking up and moving to Chapel Hill, I am most grateful for the support and encouragement from all my family, friends, and clients. The community we’ve found here feels like home and has welcomed us from day one. We’re also grateful for our friends at Stroll for giving us the opportunity to share our business with your neighborhood. Home is both refuge when we need to step back from the bustle of daily life and the intimate space we share with those we love. At Via Flora Landscapes our attention to detail and our commitment to listening to and co-creating with our clients has been the key to our success.  Even the smallest garden can enrich our lives, make us happier and healthier. Let me show you what we can create together!
