A Full House and an Open Door
The Peters Family
A Family Rooted in Faith
Situated in the quiet, wooded section at the back of Glen Oaks, the Peters family has become an integral part of the neighborhood’s close-knit community. Nate and Emily Peters, along with their children—Sterling (15), Samson (13), and Sage (10)—have spent the past 14 years actively contributing to the life and spirit of the neighborhood. Their home is filled with energy and personality, thanks to three dogs, a ball python, a pet rat, and a busy coop of hens and a rooster.
Nate and Emily’s story began in 2007 on the patio of Molly Malone’s on Bardstown Road. In a twist of fate, Nate had already noticed Emily in a photo at a coworker’s desk and jokingly said, “When she breaks up with her boyfriend, let me know.” Their first official date—a Saturday night service at Northeast Christian Church followed by dinner at Caviar—set the tone for a relationship grounded in faith and shared values. A fortune cookie that evening predicted, “An unexpected relationship will become permanent,” and eighteen years later, they’re still active members at Northeast Christian, where Nate leads a men’s group, and Emily continues her long‑standing Bible study.
Busy Kids and Bright Futures
The Peters children are deeply involved both in school and in the neighborhood. Sterling, a student at North Oldham High School, plays lacrosse and participates in a wide range of clubs, from Women in STEM to HOSA to the National Math and Science Honor Society. Samson plays lacrosse for North Oldham Middle School and King Louie and is steadily advancing through Boy Scouts, where he enjoys camping, service projects, and learning outdoor skills. Sage swims, participates in Scouts and 4‑H, and loves attending camps and hands‑on learning opportunities.
Their entrepreneurial spirit shows up in the neighborhood as well. Sterling babysits for local families, Samson offers pressure‑washing services—including trash bins—and Sage sells handmade jewelry and keychains. All three enjoy pet‑sitting for neighbors, which fits perfectly with the family’s love of animals.
Professionally, Nate serves as Vice President of Consumer Direct at Republic Bank, while Emily works as an Occupational Therapist with Independence at Heart LLC, serving individuals with brain injuries across home, community, and clinical settings. She also owns a house‑cleaning business and works as a Neora skincare consultant.
The Peters' love for the neighborhood is evident in how they show up. They are regular participants and volunteers in community events like the “SAC to School” party—an event that draws nearly 200 adults and children to celebrate the start of a new school year.
Community Spirit
Service is woven into the Peters’ daily life. As a family, they participate in Scouting for Food, which supports Louisville families during the holidays. They’re active supporters of Special Olympics, with Nate leading a Republic Bank team that raises over $10,000 annually for the Polar Plunge. They also help pack around 100 Operation Christmas Child boxes each year, ensuring children around the world receive gifts and necessities.
Their home itself carries a unique legacy. Once owned by the Maddox family—local farmers and antique collectors—the basement still reflects the previous owner’s passion, with rooms once arranged like a pharmacy, hardware store, and convenience shop. The Peters say the Maddox family’s spirit still lingers warmly in the walls.
For the Peters family, Glen Oaks is more than a place to live. It is a community where neighbors look out for one another, children grow up together, and shared traditions make a big world feel smaller. Whether they’re volunteering, hosting, cheering on local kids, or simply biking through the neighborhood, the Peters family embodies the spirit of connection that makes Glen Oaks feel like home.
