Mayfield Moments

Congratulations are in order for Mayfield Middle School Guidance Counselor, John
Paydo, who was named 2026 Ohio Middle Level Association Educator of the Year! MMS
Principal Jackie McLaughlin praised Mr. Paydo for “his dedication to students, passion
for teaching, and commitment to building strong relationships which make a lasting
impact every day.”
● Mayfield High School students in the Criminal Justice Boot camp had the chance to
learn about the cutting-edge tools used by law enforcement and bring learning to real
life, courtesy of the Highland Heights Police Department.
● Congrats to the MMS Model UN team, who participated in the Cleveland Council on
World Affairs Model UN Conference! MMS students brought home multiple honors,
including Gavel Awards, Excellent and Superior Delegations, a Position Paper Award
and an Honorable Mention. Congrats students!
● MMS students in the Service Club gave their time to volunteer at Rescue Village. This
fun service project included learning about all the ways they could give back to the
organization, with the highlight being reading to the cats and dogs.
● MMS 7 th graders participated in the Mott Million Dollar Challenge, a national competition
that empowers K-12 students to think entrepreneurially and share their ideas with a
chance to win $1 million in prizes. Students developed their elevator pitches and honed
their communication skills, submitted their pitches over video, and MMS teams
advanced to the 2 nd round!
● Mayfield is proud to announce the launch of PAWS Doggy Day Care, an innovative,
student-led business designed to provide real-world workforce training to Mayfield High
School students with disabilities. Aligned with the Ohio Means Jobs Work-Readiness
Rubric, PAWS will integrate 11 career fields and 15 workplace competencies to provide
a hands-on learning environment. The program will open in August 2026, and serve
students in the Mayfield Workforce Academy, which will replace CEVEC at the end of
this school year. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new program!
